If you are interested in offline #TextToSpeech voice-cloning, #Coqui just released new version of #XTTS model. This updated model actually works and works brilliantly. You can mimic any voice by just providing a short reference sample. The result is not identical to the original, but it is very similar. The cool thing is it's multilingual, so you can clone speech from one language to another. Pretty amazing.
PS: Audio was generated with Coqui XTTSv2 model.

That said, #TextToSpeech is an area that's seeing a lot of active development right now ( #coqui-ai, which used to be Mozilla-TTS, and #rhasspy come to mind). If any of these models get efficient enough that they could be run on-device on consumer machines, it would be great to include them in the browser. I just don't think we're there yet. -

Coqui awesome Text-to-Speech project needs you, https://github.com/coqui-ai/TTS/issues/2589. Imagine being able to create any speech from a simple text, in multiple languages, with any voices (including voice cloning), based on open source technologies and state-of-the-art algorithms? You can make it real.

So, coqui-ai does not support Python 3.11+ yet, which means I'm out of TTS for now. Yay (nay)!

Can you recommend a free/libre and open source text-to-speech (TTS) solution that generates English audio in “near-human” quality, to be included in open educational resources (OER)? Maybe with support for say-as of #SSML? A model on #HuggingFace? #Coqui TTS? Something else?
