Since everybody was talking about the #CoolS, I've decided to play around with the symbol and the more general “simple #braid pattern” it derives from, mostly to see how easy would be to build them with #SVG (answer: pretty easy, and with integer coordinates all round). The intent in the long term is to use such a design for my next refresh of the “share to Fedi” icon, but in the mean time all I got from it was some cool #CSS borders and #HTML horizontal rulers. Not bad:

Wikipedia claims the origin of the #CoolS symbol is not known, but AFAIK it's just a two-link chain in the standard way to draw a braided frame.

The #CoolS #Emoji would make a worthwhile addition to the growing and entertaining quirky emoji proposal genreGrowing up and seeing it in California I totally would have assumed a more definite 1970s rock band or surfer origin for that symbol
