Didn't get photos of #oil / #coolant changes - I'd checked in by phone with a work colleague for #safety as I was going under #car so didn't want to take too long doing this bit, its awkward enough to get to coolant drain valve and #sumpplug , let alone take photos.
Sump plug was almost rounded - #bladibarsket , replaced with new one - has T45 rather than T40.
Try not to use pop bottles for old fluids if you have kids around - these are going to be put in store room I keep my tools in until contents go to correct disposal place, and have suitable warning labels - I lacked other containers (did warn office manager I would be doing this and safety precautions I was taking)
#Opel oil filler cap when turned upside down looks like dead fish / whale on GHS warning labels (quite apt really)

Today new #sparkplugs, #coolant refresh and #oil change - had to jack up car and put ramps underneath other way round rather than drive on to them - bumper slightly fouls ramp ( #bladibarsket ).
Also chocked rear wheels for #safety
Sparkplugs are #Bosch 0 242 230 806 FQR8LEU2
( #AltText contains useful info on tools, methods etc if you have a #Vauxhall / #Opel / #CorsaC #HoldenBarina with #Z12XEP #engine, I try to put this info in the text on any of my #toots about #CarMaintenance )
[ as there's spare space in this toot I added #Holden #Barina as hashtags for anyone here who is in #Australia or #NewZealand #Aotearoa ]

Quite the adventure! Day one is bus trip, finally getting my stabilizer bar out to Blaze.
Next is day three, VA hotel. I crossed the streams and got three kinds of cereal in one bowl: Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops, and Cinnamon Toast.
Last night I happened to choose chicken & waffles for dinner. Now the hotel free breakkie is waffles, so it looks like waffles for dinner, breakfast, and leftovers!

So... my bf texts me that his car overheated and that he stopped to get more coolant.
😕
Yeah, I know. Engine overheats. Get coolant. Problem fixed, right?
Not so fast. The coolant is in a closed loop system. The necessity for more coolant might indicate a leak. Moreover, there's a min and a max line on the reservoir. If you're not under the min line, I'd say it is unlikely that adding coolant will fix the problem. There can be a host of other issues.
Etc...
During our text conversation, he admitted, "I know nothing of cars."
You know who knows something about cars? Me. I'm no mechanic, but I've run wires in cars, replaced rotors and brake pads, and noticed when mechanics were blowing smoke up my arse.
I told him to call me next time something like this happens. He texted me, but he had already stopped to buy coolant.
Part and parcel of being a Daddy Dom (yes, in the BDSM sense) is to use your wisdom and knowledge to help your partners.
(PS: He drove back home, and it overheated again, so the leak hypothesis is the top one right now. I won't get to see him this weekend. 😔 )

#car #heater not working and #coolant not visible in reservoir but hot engine and cooling fan running for some time after stop... Last mechanic invoice (<250km ago) lists 0,5 l antifreeze.
Heating was working without issues two days ago.Surprize coolant leak - yay!
Is it a hose? Is it the radiator? Is the engine toast?
The car was cheap and in relatively good condition. It was driven <10000 km in the last 7 years, so got an oil change and Inspection every ~1500km.
Its surprising how good and reliable my 27 year old #vwgolf works vs. this 17 year old #renaultscenic . I bouht the #vwgolf at age ~23 years with ~35000km and all sorts of plastic parts, ignition coil, light bulbs and other stuff failed shortly after, just due to age. Now the #renaultscenic goes through the same process... Lets hope this phase of finding out what parts did not age well will not lead to an endless rabbit hole or wasted time/money. After all, both cars were 1st owner, garage cars.

It was good to learn that Bluecol Universal #antifreeze/ #coolant (ethylene glycol based) - bought as an emergency purchase at a local garage for a relatives Ford Fiesta that was low on coolant (topped up on Christmas Day) does protect to -37 Celsius - ofc its unlikely it will ever get *that* cold in England but it does give some peace of mind (particularly with strange weather we get where it can be unseasonably warm one week and freezing the next) #CarMaintenance

Anyone know how well the leaked #monoethylenglykol in a cooling circuit will evaporate/dry off after leaking? I am wondering if it actually evaporates/drys off?
