CW: Food, not vegan
Made a really really big doria for family dinner tonight. Something new for my parents and sister, but it was very popular! Edam + mozzarella combo baked surprisingly well.

Tried making paneer for the first time today. I used citric acid to curdle the milk - it was very satisfying watching the curds form!

My favourite thing about winter in these southern climes, is putting a vegetable curry into the slow cooker. After eight hours it does a couple of serves that night plus half a dozen serves into the freezer for travel meals. #cooking #cookingau

Got up to no good in the kitchen today. The variety of reactions to cooking mango sour are interesting...
Me: I like how green mangoes smell mangoey, but not really
J: ugh, why does it smell so ~green~
Kids: why does it smell like taco Tuesday?? -
It's Sunday and is allegedly a million degrees outside so I decided to make butter chicken the hardcore way... then I looked at the sauce part of the recipe. Now I'm making it the half hardcore way (nice yoghurt/tandoori marinade from scratch, 2 different brands of jarred simmer sauce). Halfcore??

Hey #Melbourne #CookingAU folks - any idea where I could find Sichuan chili flakes locally? No luck so far in the nearby Asian groceries, or online.
(This is instead of regular crushed chilis or chili flakes from the mainstream brands.)

Felt inspired and used some of our frozen cooked down tomato stash to make a herbal, spicy sauce to go with some fancy rissoles. From the garden I included lots of parsley, basil, thyme and chilli. Plus onion and loads of garlic. It has a wonderful gentle heat from the chillies.

Finally got around to making a curry. Ingredients from the garden: tomatoes, red capsicum, Thai chillies, and half a large zucchini/squash. Added onion, garlic and carrots, coconut cream, stock, Sri Lankan and Korma spice mixes. How will it taste? Who knows! 😆

We had to clear a lot of tomatoes away from the patio poles tonight so they can be painted. Can I just use green, unripe and ripe tomatoes in a relish the same as ripe ones?

I predict there will be lots of passata making in my not to distant future. I’ve picked 2 big mixing bowls of beautiful tomatoes 🍅
