Just had #birds out for an hour. Taking them both out on my own always feels a bit intimidating, they are not best buds, they have some sorta sibling love where they both need to know that the other one is safe, but they can also start fighting each other like mortal enemies at any time.
I write a lot about why you should not buy birds, birds are extremely demanding, and most people have no idea what they are getting themselves into, even having a small bird can be more demanding than a big dog, simply because they get so attached to you, and NO ONE ELSE than you will do.
Classified ads are therefor full of "bird need new home".
But, if this is for you, there are few things more rewarding. The amount of love and trust they give you. To have your own lill dinosaur (because, they are!) fall asleep with head in your ear or under your chin, while PURRING.
To smell the warmth, comforting smell of their feathers.
This is therapy like nothing else.
But, adopt, don't buy.

Chapi is full of surprises. We have had him 3 years and 1 month now, and we have figured out his routines long time ago. We thought.
But then, a few days ago, he took off, and landed on the bathroom door handle, when the door was standing open. He stepped to the edge and peeked his head over to the other said and made odd sounds like "HALLO?", like checking for someone on the other side. Then he pulled back and started to laugh his evil genius laugh, and repeated this a few times. Then he did odd gymnastics on the handle and then back again.
It's like his previous owner played a game of "peek-a-boo" with him, but it took him 3 years to try it here. Maybe he just randomly landed on the doorhandle and suddenly remembered the game.
But now, he seeks it out all the time. He can hang and play on the handle, entertaining himself for a long time. Time he would generally spend cuddling with Tiff.
"I have been replaced by a door knob!" - was her reaction today :P

How to feed a bird, starring Capri.
Remember that your bird is a lot like a cat. As a cat, they enjoy attention. Hold the food for your cat, and your cat is more likely to eat the food.
Correction. Cats are a lot like birds.
Birds are dinosaurs, they came first.
Oki, so the food is IN the bowl, but trying to get your bird ON the bowl proves tricky. This is why you need to HOLD the bowl.
To eat in an elevated position with bowl held by your hand, a tad raised, makes everything a lot more exciting.
You will quickly learn that the fingers should be positioned at a lower part of the bowl. If you have a bowl that goes a bit "in" on the lower part, so you can hide your fingers, this is preferable.
Why, you ask?
No, you don't, I think you know why.

It is sometimes hard to disconnect from stress of reality. To achieve this easier, you apply a lill floffball.
There is so much love in 65 grams (2.3 ounces) of feathers, it is hard to believe.
The world is full of chaos, but to her, all that is unknown and in this moment, nothing else matters.
Birds don't seem like the most cuddly critters. They are "sit on perch and scream" animals. But really, most cats are nowhere near as cuddle seeking as these peeps.
You can quickly become their entire world.
(Disclaimer: the last sentence is important. These critters will demand a lot of time and attention. Know what you get yourself into, and adopt rather than buy)

People seem to think they want a #bird that talk, often not thinking about the possible result.
This one of our two adopted birds, Chapi, a green cheek #conure, a small #parrot. He came with a few stuff from previous owner, like a bell, that we put in his "need a break" cage. They also have a big cage for sleeping.
He loves to ring his bell for attention in the cage it is in, to get out of "timeout". So he rings to be let out. It was so adorable when he did this first at our place, we started to laugh.
We laughed, and he laughed. And it made us laugh even more. Because he has this mad scientist cackle laugh, it was so silly. And, he connected ringing the bell with making a laughing sound.
Birds mimic.
So, left unattended in this cage, he will now ring his bell, laugh like some Bond villain, ring again, laugh, ring, laugh.
It is both quite disturbing and insanely cute at the same time.
This is one of the very tame results a bird mimicking you can give.
Think about what you get yourself into!

One of San Francisco’s famous parrots of Telegraph Hill. While I did indeed take this photo at Telegraph Hill, the parrots can be found all over the City.
These cherry-headed conures are native to South America and are likely descendants of escaped and released pets.
