  1. @netzpolitik_feed Es wird Zeit für DNS Filter 😉 Wer es einfach haben will, nimmt z. B. #nextdns

  2. After youtube and google now detection portals are flagged as a false positive by #controld :ablobcatpopcorn:

  3. #ControlD, wtf is wrong with you? I have the feeling that I do not want to extend my subscription!

  4. How I adblock:
    ## Advertisements and Screen Readers

    Lots of the time, ads are just a garbled unlabeled mess, and they can lead to unfortunate accessibility issues.
    For example, on iOS, some articles have silent ad embeds (like videos) that make VoiceOver count down endlessly. Because of things like that, I adblock everywhere.

    I focused my uBlock Origin config on general screen reader issues such as ads, tracking, disabling YouTube Shorts, and making Twitch tabs use less CPU.

    I use this all the time and don’t run into issues myself, so that’s why I’m sharing it.
    If you want to support something later, I’ll include how to whitelist.

    Highly recommended:
    Use [NextDNS](nextdns.io/?from=773mk4ah) **and** uBlock Origin.
    This way, you can use any browser you want with the configuration.
    (Control D is an option, but it’s less accessible, so I’m not covering it here.)
    This post assumes you already know how to use uBlock Origin.

    ## The Best Web Browser?

    In my opinion as a power user, there is **no best web browser** and no best browser engine.
    Here’s what I use or recommend:

    * **Brave** (adblocking turned off)
    * **Firefox**
    * **Librewolf**
    * **Ungoogled Chromium**

    I’d stay away from other mainstream browsers, but if you must use them, use them.
    I’m just sharing my best practices from experience, not gospel.

    > **Note:**
    > You may have to use uBlock Origin Lite if you use Chrome soon, once Manifest V3 rolls out.
    > That’s why I avoid mainstream browsers entirely.

    ## Configuring NextDNS

    [Sign up for NextDNS](nextdns.io/?from=773mk4ah), then enable these subscriptions on the Privacy page:

    * NextDNS Ads & Trackers Blocklist
    * hBlock
    * anti-AD
    * HaGeZi – Multi PRO
    * OISD

    **Under Native Tracking Protection, enable:**

    * Windows (All versions)
    * Apple (iOS, macOS, tvOS)
    * Samsung (Phones, Tablets, Smart TVs)
    * Amazon Alexa (Alexa-enabled devices)

    For a detailed NextDNS guide, check:

    ## My uBlock Origin Config

    [Here is my uBlock Origin configuration (OneDrive link)](1drv.ms/t/c/37d17987e3514f7f/E).
    Right-click and save as to download the file.
    Then in uBlock Origin, open the dashboard and restore from the file you downloaded.

    I will try to update this whenever I can.

    If you’re using **uBlock Origin Lite**, open the extension settings and check the categories you want to block.
    There are no importable settings for Lite.

    ## Whitelisting

    You can whitelist in NextDNS by [going to this page](my.nextdns.io/525211/allowlist) and entering the domains or subdomains you want to allow.

    For uBlock Origin, open the dashboard, go to the Trusted Sites button, and enter your domains or subdomains to whitelist.

    At this point, you should have an ad-free experience across the web!
    If you have any suggestions for subscriptions, let me know in the comments.

  5. Switched dns to #controld. The number of blocked requests is a bit surprising.

    But it makes work much easier. My respect!

  6. Control D - The DNS service provider, as it turns out, is owned by the same people at, Windscribe VPN.

  14. #Malaysia is currently implementing #DNS Hijacking on known public DNS resolvers. Google, Cloudflare and Quad9 are confirmed affected. There have been reports that Adguard DNS is affected as well.

    Unencrypted DNS is affected, and there have been mixed reports of DoH/DoT being affected as well. Thankfully #ControlD isn't affected yet but its probably a matter of time.

    Need some #help on how to approach this. I can't afford a VPN subscription for my whole family.

  15. Pi-Hole v Control D v NextDNS on a home router

    I did some detailed speed testing and for my setup, a daemon on my home router, NextDNS was significantly faster. I posted all the results on my blog (link below):

    In summary:

    1) A Pi-Hole on the local LAN is fastest, but takes maintenance.

    2) If you have a simple configuration just putting the DNS address in your home routers menus, Control D and NextDNS seem similar in performance.

    3) If you want to run the daemon as a service on your router, NextDNS is MUCH faster than Control D. And NextDNS does local caching on the router. (Control D can supposedly be configured to do caching, but I couldn't get the config file to work.)

    4) NextDNS has an easier to use web control panel, but has fewer features.

    Details here:

  16. How does #iCloud Private Relay work?

    You can search and find a few articles (mostly high level) or read directly from this Apple paper apple.com/privacy/docs/iCloud_

    p.s: yes, it's supposed to work with custom #DoH like #NextDNS and #ControlD so if something doesn't work as expected, don't blame Apple first, but open a bug with these services.

  17. iCloud Private Relay is so useless and unreliable sometimes.

    In this screenshot you can see #ControlD status page, to check DNS latency, other info and also your own IP.

    As you can see #iCloud is successfully masking my ipv4 (you see the Cloudflare relay instead) but it’s failing to mask my ipv6.

    Is it always like that? No. If I disable and re-enable it, it will mask the ipv6 too 🤷🏻‍♂️

  18. This is the top list of domains blocked by ControlD on my Amazon FireTV.

    At the top of the list: logs.netflix.com

    Plot twist: I do NOT have a #Netflix subscription 🙄

    Also: the TV is off and this means that FireTV never turns off (very energy efficient, wow!)

    What the hell is it trying to communicate?

  19. Made the switch today from #NextDNS to #ControlD.

    The switch was not due to NextDNS not filtering my traffic, but that their iOS configurator no longer respected the “exclude ssid" option. I started a trial of ControlD and it just worked.

    Fast forward one day - I have now bought a 5 year deal on Stacksocial and added a config to the router.

    The NextDNS website still looks better, but ControlD appears to be more in active development (features and bugfixes)

  20. @[email protected] my accounts been completely scrubbed but not deleted. The intent was always to delete it at month end when dies.

    has however been filtered out of all my search results using and the domains also been blocked on
