  1. Does a tiny, brand new ham radio contest need a retro 88x31 button?

Probably not, but I made one anyway.

  2. The #EveryHam #AmateurRadio #Contest website  is live!

I've set up a "Test" contest for tomorrow, 18 April, 0000-2359 UTC.
No guarantees that any part of it will actually work, but if you happen to be on the radio tomorrow and you'd like to submit 5 of your QSOs to the contest, go for it!

The submission window is 8 days from the start of the contest (day of, plus 7 days after)
This is the first time I've attempted anything like this, so I'd appreciate any feedback on the process, any bugs you noticed, etc.

  4. Does anyone have thoughts on how to actually administer a contest like this?
My initial thoughts are to keep it simple and casual; trust that hams are submitting honest logs, then post the rankings on a website.

I'd love some input on a couple points, though:

    1. If I did want to verify contacts, could I?   I don't see how a small contest could independently confirm that any particular QSO actually happened, but maybe there's a way to use QRZ or LOTW confirmations?  Would the added complexity add any value?
    2. How should distance be scored? Grid-squares seems like the obvious choice, but they're bit weird; they're about 8x7km, so if I use a center-to-center measurement, east-to-west contacts would have a lower resolution (more rounding) than north-to-south.  But is it enough to make any meaningful difference...?
    3. For only 5 contacts, what should a submission deadline look like? Is a week enough time to export an ADIF?
    4. Should the 5-contact limit be on the submission or the *score? *That is, should a station be able to submit 100 contacts, but only the top 5 are scored, or should the operator choose the 5 contacts they want and only submit those?

  5. Follow up:   I've posted a draft of the rules!
    https://blog.k3can.us/posts/2026/apr/everyham2/

I know the idea of trying to create a level field between big HF stations using #wsjtx and portable VHF stations on FM is probably an exercise in futility, but I think it sort of works (at least on paper).

    Feedback is welcome!

  6. I had an idea for an "every ham" radio contest, where stations of all sizes could compete on a relatively level playing field.

    Does something similar already exist?

  7. Cool: GhostBox, a software defined #SO2R controller for #hamradio #contesting by YO3HEX: rig2cast.com/utils/GhostBox/GH

Requires two radios with USB sound cards. With OTRSP support, i.e. works with DXLog, N1MM+ etc.

  8. The ARRL 222 MHz and Up Distance Contest be all like, “ask me about my grid square!”

You know, if I could hear anyone bothering with FM. I’m trying. Someone will probably make two moonbounces on 241 GHz and win all the points.

  13. SO2R setup at SO5CW running! Transmitting on 15m while receiving on 20m on the same triband Yagi. Still need to put up some antennas for the lowbands and I am ready for the IARU contest next weekend! #hamradio #contesting #morsecode

  14. I hate throwing away stuff, so this former 160mm × 160mm Hammond enclosure from an old project made acquaintance with a miter saw to fit my 160mm × 80mm PCB and got a "new" front panel (the old one with all the existing and new holes, plus a "Herma" laser printable label on top of it). My #SO2R band decoder slowly starts to look like something you could enjoy having in your ham shack 🙂 #hamradio #electronics #contesting

  15. Slow progress on my #SO2R #contesting controller build... all parts are here now, everything seems to fit (printing the PCB outline on paper and checking has saved me from stupid mistakes more than once), so it's about time to order the PCBs! #hamradio

  16. The National Traffic System is dying. New hams don't know it exists!

Radio Relay International and NTS 2.0 have helped, but I'm not sure it's enough. Both projects aim for much faster delivery times and focus on digital traffic handling in different ways.

Hypothetically, what would be the best way to have a POTA-like message relay contest to help revive the art?

  17. Pushed changes to not1mm

    Add Call History support.
Expanded ESM support to other contests.
Added RAEM, French REF and NAQP RTTY contests.
Fixed some crashes and misc bugs.

  18. For this year's Scandinavian Activity Contest (SACtest.net/) I submitted two logs: DJ5CW and SO5CW. I am back in Munich and my remote station (IC-7100 and RemoteRig RRC-1258 MkII) in Poland is finally up and running! #hamradio #contesting #morsecode

  19. Hope to meet you in the EU HF Championship today (euhf.s5cc.eu/)! 12:00Z to 23:59Z; exchange is RST + year of your first license, 160m - 10m CW/SSB. SO5CW will be giving out the "97" multi in a rather casual entry (between other commitments). #hamradio #contesting

  20. not1mm changes of note since May.

    - [24-7-28] Add flrig CW sending.
    - [24-7-25-1] Have VFO dock widget handle disconnect/reconnect events of the USB VFO knob more gracefully.
    - [24-7-19] Use Qt's QSettings to store window and dockwidgets states.
    - [24-6-27] Corrected ADIF contest_id for the Phone Weekly Test.
    - [24-6-1] Added leading zeros to S/N's less than 100.

  21. A short participation in the July #VHF contest using my Polish callsign SO5CW resulted in only 10 QSOs, with the best DX at 777 km (S50C). It's really a different thing to work VHF from eastern Poland vs. my normal location near Munich. Nobody turns their antennas this way! #hamradio #contesting

  22. Pushed new changes to not1mm. Added ICWC Medium Speed Test.
Moved voice keying into it's own thread to correct PTT timing.

  23. Pushed new changes to not1mm. Most notably you can now send CW macros using rigctld to rigs that support it. This eliminates the need for a K1EL winkeyer. Though I'll still use the winkeyer myself thank you.

Thanks to NZ0T for suggesting this.

  30. @kb8pfz Did Saturday and later also decided to do Sunday. Had a strategy and did QRP. Hard fought for QSOs. There needs to be a single band category.
