The word #record (from latin recordari) means #information that remains. Events that have happened, have disappeared. A #recording is a promise that something can last longer than the moment it happened. A letter on paper. A gesture or vibration that shapes a surface. An image. Recorded audio. A record of transport from a to b in time and space. For months I have collected #cassette recorders for a project, here represented by another defect purchase.. #composer #art #practice #contemporarymusic

Feine Katzen Orchestra ( AT ) // live @ Raumschiff

Raumschiff, Monday, October 26 at 07:30 PM GMT+1

Feine Katzen Orchestra is a working ensemble that improvises freely. The three musicians bring different musical backgrounds ranging from traditional music to (free) jazz and contemporary classical music with them. They discuss various perspectives and

experiment with possible approaches to improvisation but rely ultimately on their musical intuition and their shared enthusiasm for the creative dialogue in the moment.

Valentin Duit, Yoram Rosilio and Alyona Pynzenyk

Helene Glüxam ( AT ) // live @ Raumschiff

Raumschiff, Thursday, October 22 at 07:30 PM GMT+2

For some months I've tried to find cassette recorders, and to work with cassette recordings in music works. So far I’ve not found any fully working devices. But this is part of the «lesson» my composing material teaches me, as my next posts will try to explore (The closest I've found so far is this Shinaon walkman, without recording function, that I found at the excellent Merkatå second hand store in Oslo). #cassette #composer #art #recording #experimentalmusic #practice #contemporarymusic

Brett Dean

“Other Song” by #CarolineShaw and Sō Percussion, from their album “Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part”. I love her vocal tracks, the quiet power, the poetry of the lyrics and how they borrow from so many influences modern and historic, but sound so modern, so here. The percussion in this track is soothing and utterly beautiful. https://youtu.be/s5YNFT1VFK0?si=aCXsIiA1Apsa9qbG

This is what the "glamorous" work of being a musician looks like a majority of the time. This is me woodshedding a new piece of music in a storage closet. I'm trying to get some of it up to tempo and ready for a recording by next Friday.
