  5. β€œThere’s no one face of our country,” US District Court Judge Mark Mastroianni told new Americans this week. β€œThe face of America is all of us. America is every country you’re from every place you have been from, mixing and coming here, and it’s such a happy day.” americasvoice.org/blog/the-fac #CitizenshipDay #ConstitutionDay

  6. "Happy Constitution Day. (The day set aside annually to mark the signing of the U.S. Constitution by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in 1787.) The administration appears to be celebrating by cheering its contributions to the erosion of the First Amendment." - Joyce Vance

  7. Today is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day in the US. It's a heartbreaking occasion this year, as all around us we witness the Constitution being torn to shreds, while people who have spent years of their lives putting down roots here are being cast out.

I had always wanted to attend a citizenship ceremony, but never had that opportunity until 2018, when I was fortunate enough to be present at such an occasion. It was moving and meaningful to see such a formal validation of welcome to the diversity of new citizens.

My grandparents were the children of immigrant parents. I grew up hearing Grandma's stories of their history, and found it easy to see that history repeated again and again in more recent arrivals. Every newcomer brings their own story, their own hopes. Each one offers their own gifts, their own contributions.

The present toxic attitude of animosity against immigrants horrifies and offends me. Those of us whose roots have long been here owe a debt to those whose roots long predate ours, especially those who lived on this land before any newcomers, and those who were brought here involuntarily. We owe another debt, just as important, to those who come after us, looking to put down new roots of their own, just as our grandparents once did.

This photo from the 2018 citizenship ceremony still lifts my spirits when I look at it.

  8. Now that we no longer have the rule of law, the Society for Creative Anachronism should form new LARPer groups that revolves around our former legal system.

They could be built around 'mock trial'-style courtroom reenactments. Dress up in ties. Once person gets a robe.

Invite the HS kids to watch for field trips and it'll be the closest thing they'll get to #Civics class.

    Happy #ConstitutionDay ! #USPolitics

  9. "The newcomers were encouraged by many of the ceremony's speakers to bring their traditions and celebrate their uniqueness as they embark on their journey now as Americans."

β€œOne man remarked from the podium, β€˜This is our country's motto: E Pluribus Unum β€” out of many, one.’” fox13now.com/news/positively-u #ConstitutionDay #CitizenshipDay

  10. β€œOn Friday, September 12, 2025, the breathtaking backdrop of Grand Canyon National Park’s Mather Amphitheater set the stage for a deeply meaningful celebration: the naturalization of 29 new American citizens representing 13 different countries.” nps.gov/articles/000/grand-can #ConstitutionDay #CitizenshipDay

  11. A number of naturalization ceremonies welcoming our newest Americans have already been underway ahead of today’s #ConstitutionDay and #CitizenshipDay. It’s a day we should be proud of. No other nation has the distinction of being known as β€œa nation of immigrants.” And, we’re stronger for it πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

  12. If you ranked my possessions by the amount of time they’ve been within arm’s reach, this pocket Constitution (which I’ve owned for more than half my life) comes in just after my wedding band. On this #ConstitutionDay may we realize the ideal of a nation ruled by laws, not men. No Kings; no tyrants!

  13. Sept 17, 1787 β€” The U.S. Constitution was signed in Philly.
A messy miracle, flawed but foundational.

Plato said: β€œGood nurture and education implant good constitutions.”
Jefferson said each generation should rewrite itβ€”about every 20 years.
Honestly? I think they were both right.

The Constitution was a stepping stone, not a shrine.
Let the living build their own.
