Yesterday I had great fun giving a masterclass talk on caring for #metals at the #MuseumsAndHeritageShow in London: I tried giving people an idea of what the most common reasons for #corrosion are, and how we can best avoid those and keep our metallic friends happy.
I like bringing props, so here are two beautiful sets of keys: the bundle on the left has been given a protective coating, and the one on the right hasn't. 🔑

This will enable us to preserve the painting for future generations. It was particularly fun because I got to dig through old documentation and solve some mysteries we'd found. I just love the little discoveries we can make in museums.

Today I'm attending the #MuseumsAssociation one day conference on the #FutureOfDisposal, which is a hot topic for #museums everywhere.
I'm very pro-rationalisation, which often horrifies fellow #conservators, but we just can't keep everything.
I'd be curious to hear what my fellow GLAM folks on here think of pruning #collections - yay or nay?
Personally I think it's as much a part of good #CollectionsManagement as acquiring new objects and looking after them while they're in your care.
