In "Greatest Actors" lists, the name of Conrad Veidt, perhaps the greatest of them all, is usually conspicuously absent. From Caligari to Casablanca, and beyond, he never gave less than a towering performance.

The Indian Tomb 1921 (parts 1 & 2) one sentence synopsis.

Man throws four hour hissy fit, because his wife cheated on him.

I'll add that Veidt was an Anti-Fascist who fled Nazi Germany with his Jewish wife. He is the inspiration for The Joker. #conradveidt #antifacist #silentmoviestar #classicmovies

#BOTD in 1893, Conrad Veidt on the cover of Pour Vous magazine, as the bizarrely fascinating Baron von Kempelen from the 1938 French film Le Joueur d'échecs.

“Like many fathers, mine was affectionately autocratic in his home life, strict, idealistic. He was almost fanatically conservative. By contrast, my mother Amalie was sensitive and nurturing."
#ConradVeidt turned out all right. (Not alt right.)
Donated his life savings to UK govt as WW II began👏🏻
Women couldn't resist his... Lutheran charm?

deutsche Film 1894–1945, has been translated to English and is available for pre-order here :

Although its reception has been at best controversial, I think we can all agree that a new Conrad Veidt study is more than welcome!
