  1. At yesterday's #StateOfTheUnion address (a Constitutionally mandated annual report which has become largely political theater):

    > The president noted his continued interest in receiving the Medal of Honor himself.

    > "I've always wanted the Congressional Medal of Honor, but I was informed I'm not allowed to give it myself... If they ever open up that law, I'll be there with you someday," he told 100-year-old Medal of Honor recipient Capt. E. Royce Williams.

    There are four different #MedalOfHonor statutes:

    • Air Force + Space Force (10 U.S. Code § 9271)

    • Army (10 U.S. Code § 7271)

    • Coast Guard (14 U.S. Code § 2732)

    • Naval Force (10 U.S. Code § 8291)

    Each statute has the same structure require distinguished service in a legitimate adversarial military engagement by a member of the named armed services. So, sounds like #Trump has quite the di-dilemma (tetralemma?) as to which #CongressionalMedalOfHonor to award himself and give even low-information voters an easy hook on which to hang impeachment charges.

    > The President may award, and present in the name of Congress, a medal of honor of appropriate design, with ribbons and appurtenances, to a person who, while a member of [PICK ONE], distinguishes himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty—

    > (1) while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;

    > (2) while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or

    > (3) while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.

  2. #DonaldTrump #flippant #remarks About the #MedalofHonor #Inspires #Vets to #Anger.

    The former president #denigrated #CongressionalMedalofHonor #recipients in an effort to #butterup a #wealthy #donor. Trump stated the Presidential #MedalofFreedom was “much better” than the military’s top award, because those awarded the latter are, in his words, “ … either in #verybadshape because they’ve been hit so many times by #bullets or they’re #dead.”
