looking to self-host a #matrix server as a #discord replacement to migrate my friend group away from there now that the whole age verification catastrophe is happening.

is there a #conduwuit alternative that isn't uncomfortably sexualised and in-your-face about everything?

i guess i could use regular #conduit, but the docs warn about it being somewhat unstable compared to the former. #synapse seems to be insanely difficult to set up, and #dendrite looks like it has none of the strengths of the two others

It's completely okay to criticize something, as long as the criticism actually makes sense.

Criticize things for their real-world behavior, not because who made it #matrix #conduwuit #wtf

Saying Matrix is bad because the Mossad created it is like saying SELinux and AES encryption is bad because the NSA created it or saying water is bad because Hitler drank water.

They have their flaws but saying something is bad because a bad actor used it is crazy imo

I'm not defending Matrix, it's E2EE implementation is flawed UX-wise and the community LOVES drama and bikeshedding, but holy crap

Excited to announce the first release (v0.5.0-rc.5) of Continuwuity:

Good news for existing users: Continuwuity is a drop-in replacement! Just swap the binary/Docker image.
Conduwuit still runs but isn't updated; Continuwuity is the path forward.

I don't think self hosting a personal matrix server is for me anymore. I'm going back to my matrix•org server for now. I didn't really use it in a way that I thought benefited enough to justify keeping up with hosting it. Besides from what I can tell conduwuit is no more? Oh well, again not worth the effort for me right now.

I'm still thinking about setting up a selfhosted #Matrix Server, but I'm not sure about which software to use.

Available hardware: Synology DS920+ with plenty of RAM.

Top of my current list is #conduwuit, close second is #synapse .

I read that Synapse can be very hungry on resources, even for single-user servers. Is that still a problem?

i don't think i'll come back, matrix is bad and an objectively bad protocol not because of what it is but because of the community, the people, the userbase

The #Matrix server implementation #conduwuit has apparently stopped development. The Github repository was archived and their Matrix support room was closed. Let's hope Grapevine can become a new home for us stranded users.

Hmm, korzystam codziennie od kiedy stanął matrix.pol.social. Wcześniej na matrix.org (powolny).
Niedawno @matt postawił synapse dla @koop i będę się przenosił. @didek prowadzi swojego NoEvil też już od dłuższego czasu.

To nie jest proste czy lekkie oprogramowanie, ale absolutnie daje radę.

Codziennie używam czata, audio, wideokonferencji i udostępniania ekranu. Zastępuje mi kilka rozwiązań.
Element X na telefonie jest wygodny jak Signal.
Nie wiem dlaczego #matrix ma taką złą sławę.
Jest bardziej skomplikowany niż inne softy, ale działa.
Będę testował niebawem #conduwuit jako "lżejszy" serwer dla mniejszych grup, by wspierać matrix we własnej domenie dla organizacji.
