  1. new video posted of excerpts from my live show last week at @strim

I rather prefer the ephemeral and real-time, plus I forget to hit record. But anyway, in case you didn't feel like showing up live...

Small sample size as only my second live show in 6 years and last year I was unable to sit at a desk much less attempt to produce or perform a show. Universe willing, next year we will do some more varied themed live shows from the monikers and pseudonyms. Thanks to everyone for their support this year and for abetting the noise in my head.

  3. California Condors are nesting in northern California now! It wasn't by chance either-- tons of effort by many parties, including a small part I played in 2012 with a contaminants and disease survery study I co-led to check out other avian scavengers on the northwest coast. Anyway, awesome news! coastalraptors.com/2026/03/25/

In 2008, for the first time since the program began, more California condors were flying free in the wild than in captivity. Today there are nearly 500 – more than half of them flying free in Arizona, Utah, California, and Baja Mexico.

When I was born, there were no condors in the wild. I'm 37 now, and there are over 250 condors flying free.

In 1982 there were only 22 California Condors left in the world. In 1992, when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), with its public and private partners, began reintroducing captive-bred condors to the wild. In 2001 the first wild nesting occurred in Grand Canyon National Park since re-introduction. In 2002 there were only 8 pairs of wild nesting birds population-wide.

  9. After a rough few years of losses to bird flu, lead poisoning and fire, 2024 was the best year in decades for the central coast flock of California condors. The flock is up to 110 birds, of the approximately 340 flying wild anywhere.

  10. The Yurok Tribe's wildlife office has announced that the last two California Condor releases of 2024 have been successful. A8 and A9 are both young males, and were both hatched and raised at the Oregon Zoo in Portland.

These two make 18 total Prey-go-neesh (their Yurok name) in the skies over Yurok land.

"The proclamations enlarge the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument... #Condors once soared in the skies there, but their population has declined because of lead poisoning, habitat destruction and poaching. The area is also home to #BaldEagles, #TuleElk, #MountainLions and other species."

  14. Andy N. Condor of Tracy Aviary is here to remind everyone of a wonderful Andean legend: "Once the condor enters your life, it will never leave."

We hope not, Andy. You have made friends for condors and vultures all over the world. 🖤

Photographer — probably Helen Dishaw; if not, then a member of the Tracy Aviary staff.
