The world's largest mica capacitor in 1926, one component in the "Imperial Wireless Chain" of long-range radiotelegraphy stations built by the British Empire in the 1920s. The mica inside this device was mined in India, the lady pictured for scale was certainly involved in its construction.

When it comes to basic restoration like re-capping, is it straightforward? Specifically, did they tend to use standard, marked components so it's easy to see what they should be replaced with? Schematics/service manuals findable on the 'net?
More modern electronics with sanded-off, lasered-off, or never-marked-in-the-first-place components is annoying to try to do this with.

Finally got around to cleaning the #CoilFins on the #AC #condenser this evening. Just in time for the #HotSeason, which is nearly upon us here in #DesMoines, #Iowa. Now I'm relaxing on the front porch, drinking a #BlakesHardCider and watching the #bats performing impressive aerobatic maneuvers in effort to catch their dinner of #insects.

I may be slightly irrationally excited to have received a new #Zoom H5 digital #audio #recorder. Nice upgrade from my PMD660 (2GB #CompactFlash cards were getting hard to find!) 4-track recording, XLR inputs with 48V phantom power, quite nice internal mics, and it can act as a USB audio device to #Linux. Nice quiet preamps too.
Sounded incredible with my #MXL 990 #condenser #mic. #audacity is going to get some more runtime than usual this weekend 🙂
