  1. Had a great time seeing the Grown Ass Man Band tonight! Cool to see a cover band that has neither a guitar nor a keyboard. 4-piece band with drums, bass, vocals/harmonica, and trombone. The trombone player also played a conch shell!! 🐚

  5. An #ArtFight2024 revenge against Electrisa's merman superhero, Luminaut (artfight.net/character/461422.).

They did a fantastic portrait of Big Blue, so I figured a blue for a blue was fair!

  6. I got a body mod today!

It's technically a conch piercing, but it's done with a biopsy punch and then tapered up. It's 6mm at the moment, and in a month we'll size down the jewellery to 5mm so that it finishes healing neatly. Then if I want to, I'll be able to stretch it back to 6mm (and maybe further).

Dimitri, guest piercing at Sage Studio, did it - they did my high nostril piercings last month.. and again, it was a fantastic experience.

Everything went smoothly. I felt comfortable the entire time. I was able to ask questions, as well as just chat about body modding. I was a nurse for a long time, and was watching their asceptic technique.. which was spot-on.

The piercing itself was quick. It was painful, I'm not going to lie. Because it's cartilage, there's a roughness to how it feels as it's being done. And it feels achey now as well. But I enjoy those feelings.. they're happy "I did a pretty thing to my body because it's MY body" feels, and I think that's the powerful thing about body modification.

I think it's my favourite piercing I've had done. I love the way it looks with the glass plug in it, and the way the light shines through it.

I'm already wondering about getting a matching one on the flat of my other ear.. 🤔

  11. @lukeharby …and the smell on the plane was so bad it was making people violently sick in the cabin (6 hour flight), but no one could figure out where it was coming from, and being 9, I hadn’t made the connection that it was my beach treasure nicely rotting away in my rucksack. It was only when we got home after a very uncomfortable journey that my parents angrily discovered the rapidly liquefying source. It remains a family joke to this day, and they still have the conch. #conch

  12. AAAS: "U.S. mulls stronger protections for iconic Caribbean conch, raising concern among fishers" Disney-cute, the queen conch in the photo is a large marine snail known for its gorgeous shell + reportedly delectable flesh. And yes, those are 2 cute eyes on stalks looking back at you. And yes, this is pristine underwater photography in a seagrass meadow, where conch like to hang out. Okay, now for the problem. Federal officials are considering whether to list conch as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. “The extraction from the world’s largest seagrass ecosystem has been immense,” says Andrew Kough, a marine biologist at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Some conch are secure in remote or deep water, other older specimens [up to 35 cm in diameter] can become camouflaged with algae + coral growing on their shells. 'Because of overexploitation, conch fishing was banned in Florida in 1975.' In 1992, international trade of conch was regulated by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Today, numbers are dwindling across almost all its range, + larvae are not dispersing adequately to maintain gene flow between residual local populations. Some populations are still reproducing in the Bahamas, Jamaica + a few other sites. In my view, past time to take fishing pressure off another marine species. #conch #extinction
