  1. Sometimes I think about the irony of #Nintendo calling thier least capable system names like "Entertainment System" and "Family Computer" when it only plays a subset of 2D #games, and it wasn't until the Wii that any Nintendo console was what I would consider a full "Entertainment System" and/or "Computer", as in, more generalized entertainment/computing capabilities than just a subset of games. Even more ironic that the #PlayStation played music CDs and the later models played DVDs and BluRays and could be used with a keyboard and mouse and web-browser, meaning it didn't just "Play", but was a full Entertainment System and potentially a Family Computer. ...and now the #Xbox is apparently just going to be a windows PC, so it will literally just be a normal computer you can play games and other entertainment on.

  4. @the In part because of the state of my home but in part over my mostly seasonally flaring medical conditions, even as I have been pretty continually using computers of this general type consistently for about 15-20 years, I've not had them enabled to make calls for over about 10 of those years.

This is also why/how I know virtual keyboards don't work often for me at all, because of how often I've had them fail me.

*Most of when I regularly had them enabled, physical keyboards were common.

This adds to why I really do consider them very separate but also why as I basically look to complete my transition away from big tech operating system ran computers, beyond my enjoyment of having #CalyxyOS for a while on one device, I really do need this to be a complete transition to having my computers back under my control.

*When you've got Google or other AI/LLMs embedded in said setups & automatic by the provider set times for updates, you don't at all have that control at all.

  5. Y'all what the fuck is going on in the #ComputerHardware industry??

(That's rhetorical, it's megalomaniacs buying up all the chips)

  6. When it comes to getting at least close to all my basic needs & wants met in a degoogled smartphone setup, I've got basically the blackberry #Key1 or Key 2, or #Unhertz titan with at least #PostMarketOS with those options having a $200-600 price range, most being $400-500.

Or #Motorola phones and a separate mini keyboard, with #Calyx or #PostmarketOS, with a $70- $700 price range, most being under $250.

On #smartphones heavier for me is always better, so if as I suspect the cheaper option is also heavier, that's another selling point for it.

When an $800-900 item & setup is inferior to a $70- $250 one, this isn't anywhere near a matter of my being too picky, but rather a matter of the ridiculousness of insisting that everyone has the same exact needs!

  8. #PCBuilding #PSA: there is no rule against drilling holes in your #computer case.

Like seriously, if you have a decent cylinder drill, and you have one of those cases that has a panel on both sides for cable management, you have the option to drill out a few holes for things like header cables, so you can route them back there quickly and not stretch them over the top of where your components are supposed to be.

    Just make sure that...
    - you do this outside or somewhere the mess won't be a problem: there will be metal shavings everywhere.
    - none of the components are inside the case when you do this
    - you aren't hitting the case electronics or a necessary piece of support
    - you thoroughly clean it afterwards because there will be metal shavings everywhere

Building your own tower is easy and fun, just remember #AlwaysBuyAMD.

  9. I have a trackball where the rubber feet are partially falling of. I was thinking of removing them, cleaning the remaining glue and grime with "Goo Gone", and then re-glue the feet back. Is that a good approach? If yes, what type of glue should I use for the feet?

  10. Pulling Back the Curtain on my Twitch Livestreaming
I recently got asked how I pick games to stream on Twitch. I also talk a little about the hardware I use to stream.
