I do the same today, only I use my old Palm III PDA to imagine how I'd use a pocket Intelligence Amplifier.

  10. There's a vast wealth of GOFAI and ANN stuff that anyone with a PC can easily run and study. What we need is a pervasive, citizen science level, DIY, basic understanding of AI. At the very least, what it is and what is is not. The same goes for computation in general. We're way past magical thinking.

  32. CW: Academic thoughts / Computational Thinking

    When I started graduate school 20 years ago I was inspired by the idea of #ComputationalThinking (particularly diSessa's notion) because I felt "seen" in how I experienced coding and problem solving. I still love the idea, but it is a struggle to see how divergent the definitions remain, and how inconsistent. Also, I wrestle with a desire to recognize it everywhere, and the way some definitions seem to water it down excessively. More work to be done!
