  2. 🔍 Drawing on work at the intersection of #NLP and financial and social science applications, Dr. Chen highlighted why understanding LLMs as active intermediaries is crucial for assessing influence, accountability, and systemic risk in modern information ecosystems.

    💬 We thank Dr. Chen for the thought-provoking talk and the discussion with UKP Lab members on language, mediation, and power in the age of #LLMs.

  9. #preprint We have a new #ABM called NormAN (for ‘Normative Argument Exchange Across Networks’) which we hope will help build bridges between research on #OpinionDynamics and #Argumentation research.

    It captures the exchange of arguments by #Bayesian agents in a ground truth world based on a #CausalGraph. Code is #Netlogo with #R (netlogo python coming soon).

    Take it for a spin!

  17. Is anyone familiar with prior work that explores *who* provides feedback in online communities?

    There is some work on identifying "experts" in knowledge-sharing communities, but is there research identifying what kinds of users are doing the social/community work of welcoming and encouraging new participants?

    Any pointers at all, even peripherally relevant, would be appreciated!

  18. Hello world! Here's my #introduction

    I’m an #NLP #PhD student at #CMU and a Student Researcher at #Google, interested in #AI for {Language, Knowledge, Culture, Society}

    Currently I work on #NLProc with applications to #ComputationalSocialScience, #ScienceOfScience, #QuestionAnswering, & #ScholarlyNLP.

    I'm often inspired by #libraries, #wikis, #memex, etc -- long term I'd like to study & build interactive #KnowledgeAugmentation that supports discovery, agency, access, community, and trust.

  19. Quick heads-up that we will be presenting this work on measuring/predicting "Sense of Virtual Community" within Twitch Channels in one hour (6-7PM PST), at the "Online Communities & Inclusivity" session at #CSCW2022

  20. I gather I should do an #introduction! I'm an Assistant Professor at Harvey Mudd College in #computerscience, where my research is focused on the practicalities of using #nlp for #digitalhumanities #computationalsocialscience. I'm excited to talk about undergraduate #ducation as well as #crosswords, Dungeons and Dragons, memes, and baking cookies.

  21. #reintroduction

    I'm Sebastian, a #computational #linguist (sometimes also an #nlp person) at Stuttgart University, Germany. I work on #semantics, #multilinguality, #digitalhumanities, #computationalsocialscience and some #machinelearning.

    Recent studies I already posted about include modeling party similarity (arxiv.org/abs/2210.11989), distinguishing main/subordinate clauses across languages (arxiv.org/abs/2205.11987) and understanding news recommendation systems (arxiv.org/abs/2207.14704)
