Incidentally, our City of Edmonton website has a few easy resources about composting on this page: https://www.gov.edmonton.ab.ca/programs_services/garbage_waste/free-compost
First link out is a basic poster with "How to Use Compost" tips, but at the bottom of the page are two PDF booklets, one is a "Down to Earth guide" to home composting, and the other is a guide to worm composting (vermicomposting), as mentioned by @compost as a good method for indoor winter composting!
