CW: Fictional Mother Daughter Abuse, Book to Series - Like Water For Chocolate,
AH HOLY SHIT they have a Like Water for Chocolate mini-series on hulu. Its really capturing the emotion of the original book for me so far and im excited. This book, ironically found in my mom's library, is one of the critical literature pieces I love that formed my writing style to this day.
It tells the story of a family in Mexico in the 1890's-1900's. The youngest daughter Tita is forbidden from marrying because as the last daughter, it is tradition for her to take care of her mother. Throughout the book Tita goes through a lot of abuse by Mama Elena that she takes in stride.
To me it honestly really captures that feeling of helplessness mixed with pleading to soothe a furious parent's tirade that never seems to end and keeps extending via grudges and passive aggression. I wont say more so you can read the book or watch it yourself. (This gif will make sense when you start the story ;) )
