  1. I've been really busy the last few months with family things and have also been involved with the clear up sessions in our local #CommunityWoodland.

  2. And, finally.

The last photo from the #CommunityWoodland group work yesterday. Apart from the main woodland we also own this path and the rough/waste* ground on the right. The path got cleared yesterday.

    * no ground is "waste" but this has been used as a dumping ground / fly tipping area for decades. There's numerous layers of garden waste and other wood and building waste.

  3. Busy day, today

Tree planting - here it was 4 Hazel trees. Hopefully, in time, they will produce nuts for the local red squirrels. The tree protectors are made from fully biodegradable material.

Then, a litter pick in the woodland. Much less litter than the last time.

    A great time was had.

  4. Our Crowdfunder to buy land in the Wilder Marshes for woodland and habitat creation is now being matched by Aviva Community Fund, so for every £1 you contribute they’ll put in another £1, up to £250! Lets go! #Nature #CommunityWoodland #Biodiversity crowdfunder.co.uk/p/creating-a

  5. Bee on Whin

There are several whin (Ulex europaeus) bushes in the woodland. I was particularly pleased when I was photographing this bush as a bee photobombed the photo and landed on one of the flowers.

  7. Bracken Fronds

When I was out for a walk I noticed these beside the edge of the road. I was delighted to catch a photo of these #bracken #fronds before they #uncurled. When they are #curled up like this I always thing they look like something from another planet.

  9. Insect on Bluebell

I’ll confess – I didn’t actually notice the #insect when I was taking the photo, I only noticed it once I uploaded it to the computer. I was actually taking a photo of these #bluebells. I really liked their colour as they are #white but with a subtle hint of #pink.

  10. Downy Birch Catkins

I find the different catkins incredibly interesting. The Downy Birch has both male and female catkins. The long lighter coloured catkins in this photo are the male catkins. While the female catkins are standing erect. As you can see they appear together on the same branches.

  11. Daffodils

As the woodland is bordered by houses we sometimes see “stray” #flowers in the #woodland. This lovely little bunch of #daffodils did just that. I really like how the early #spring #sunshine is streaming through the #woodland.

  12. Wood Anemone

There were 2 little flowers amongst all the undergrowth on a bank of plants. They looked quite spectacular and very different from a normal wood anemone. When I investigated it further I found that it was wood anemone Alba Plena (Anemone nemorosa alba plena).

  13. Garlic Mustard

This plant has very distinctive leaves and has several heads of #white #flowers. It took be quite some time to identify it as there are so many white #umbel type #plants but eventually I decided it was #Garlic #Mustard (Alliaria petiolata).

  17. Spiders Web on Great Wood Rush

How spectacular is this. This #great #wood #rush #flowerhead has been turned into a massive #spiders #web – if you look closely you will see the spiders web extends down the stalk of the plant. In addition there looks to be some seedheads also caught up in the cobweb.

  18. Daisy

These are a really common flower in this area but there aren’t a massive number in the woodland. There is a little #insect on one of the #daisy (Bellis perennis) #flowers.

  19. Cow Parsley

This #Cow #Parsley took me a while to identify - I had to go back to basics and identify by leaf type, leaf positions and flower head, as well as the location it was growing.
