  6. Multi-Language Statement: MeshCore Region Scopes

🇺🇸 Why doesn't Black Forest Mesh align with administrative districts?
There is much debate in the mesh community about the "right" boundaries. For me, identity, cross-border inclusion, and technical pragmatism come first. I have summarized my reasons for „suedbaden“ and „upper-rhine“ in detail – a thread about radio waves, cultural roots, and breaking down digital walls. 👇

  11. We can regenerate soil.
    We can regenerate ecosystems.
And yes — we can regenerate human community.
I’m connecting with people who want to co-create self-sufficient, conscious, purpose-driven villages.
    Let’s weave a network.

  12. In a mountainous region in Italy where internet access is not possible for many, locals interconnect in the valleys between the mountains using WiFi antennas connected to routers running libremesh (and some other FOSS based layers). Technology often gives us the illusion of being independent, as if we did not depend on geography or food. Here, technology actually *creates* connections, and makes visible how much we do depend on our environment and on other people.

  17. 🌦️Checking the weather is an act that many of us do daily without much thought, but for the community of Ulukhaktok, this simple search wasn't so simple until Internet access was expanded last year.

More reliable and affordable Internet has positively impacted the community.

Learn how we, with the generous support of Baicells and FlyAirNorth, worked with the people of Ulukhaktok to build a #CommunityNetwork :

  19. Newly added to the Trade-Free Directory:

    servicespace

ServiceSpace is an organization run entirely by volunteers. We leverage technology to encourage everyday people around the world to do small acts of service. Our aim is to ignite the fundamental generosity in ourselves and others, creating both inner and outer transformation.

ServiceSpace was conceived by volunteers, was built by volunteers, and is run by volunteers — all for the benefit of volunteers. Our projects range from a daily positive news service, to an acts-of-kindness portal, to a gift-economy restaurant. Regardless of the endeavor, we act in concert to create service opportunities for each other and to support each other’s service journeys.

What is H.e.l.f.a. in general about?

We live in a world where not only the ongoing global competition and capitalism leads to an injustice towards a part of the earth’s population that does not have enough to eat and drink, while in the so-called western world people live in abundance.
What falls by the wayside is what really counts: our humanity in togetherness, our families and relationships, friendships and our health.

This leads to the question: What in our lives is really real and has substance?
This question is occupying more and more people, triggering a worldwide movement that is actively seeking alternative models of living – for the benefit of people, animals and nature. In order for change and mutual helping and supporting to succeed, we need to completely rethink the current structures of society.

We at H.e.l.f.a. would like to present with this handbook our solution approach, how a new social living together with values like compassion, respect, voluntariness, humanity, cohesion, empathy, understanding, support, tolerance, lived love and personal responsibility can succeed.

  22. @kravietz my take on Helium: since 2015 we have the open #communitynetwork TheThingsNetwork where peers share their gateways and everyone has free access. >100 thousand people are sharing 1000s of gateways covering at least partially the main cities.

Then comes Helium. They build private networks where people have to pay for access. That's basically reverting back from a community approach to a market exchange model.

    I don't buy that. You?
