  1. We don't have to wait for permission, or for celebrity involvement, or for funding.

If you want to make television you can do it Right Now! I do it every day.

If you want to fund community broadcasting, but don't want to make television, you can do it right now! You can fund #netv or #communityBroadcastingNetwork or #nham or democracy now, or a large number of other independent television producers, by ... just giving us money.

Or, if none of those are to your liking you can organize your own independent television network.

(All of our content is available for syndication, for free!)

  2. If you haven't been paying attention to what we've been doing with the #CommunityBroadcastingNetwork you may have missed some stuff!

This is a short thread wrapping up some recent uploads.

First: Community Media Spotlight on Working Class Music

You can also catch working class music (though, on a significant delay) on New Ellijay Television @workingclassmusic

  3. Chapter 3 of our new translation and score of Filibus: The Mysterious Air Pirate is up now on youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=upA41V_FQy

And will shortly be up on peertube: vod.newellijay.tv/w/aBgVseE8Ja

and tomorrow I'll write a blog post about it for #CommunityBroadcastingNetwork a

This has a new score and translation by @DoctorDeathray and it's great.

  4. I've been working on the next issue of The Mysterious Air Pirates tonight.

And I'm wearing my Mysterious Air Pirates shirt, and I have new Mysterious Air Pirate shoes, and I'm about to upload chapter four of Filibus: The Mysterious Air Pirates to #NETV and the #CommunityBroadcastingNetwork

  5. Today, there's another option. Our pals over at @video and especially @DoctorDeathray have released episode one of their new score and translation for Filibus: The Mysterious Air Pirate.

  6. We have a few more interesting things planned for the #CommunityBroadcastingNetwork in terms of what kinds of videos we'll be releasing and what kinds of artists we'll be promoting, and even how we'll be promoting them.

But the core idea is pretty simple: We're promoting artists and art, and sharing that art, through as many venues as possible, to as many people as possible.

It is my sincere hope that this work will pay the bills for at least a few folks, so that they can continue to make more art.

  7. JOKERJOKERtv is well into the 200s in terms of number of episodes.

Their full archive is currently on youtube.

We're working on a 24/7 broadcast stream for them, and also navigating how to get them into peertube, and maybe even onto cable in Athens.

Anyway, JJTV is a member of the #CommunityBroadcastingNetwork, and I'm glad to have them aboard.

  8. Announcing the Community Broadcasting Network

    The trailer is live.

You can watch it on YouTube (youtu.be/N97vqR1pVOY) or on PeerTube (communitymedia.video/w/icMDFVm). It's a short video that tries to answer a simple question: what happens when a community picks up cameras and starts telling its own stories?

For me, that question started with New Ellijay Television (newellijay.tv). NETV is a community access station in the north Georgia mountains, powered by local producers. It's real TV for real people in one specific place. That project taught me that the tools for making television are now in everyone's hands. The only thing missing was a reason to use them together.

I tried to write down those reasons in a book called Community Media (communitymedia.network). It's a handbook for what I called a revolution in DIY TV. The message was simple: produce your own media, become the media, join the revolution.

But a book can only do so much. Television needs a network.

So here it is. The Community Broadcasting Network (communitybroadcasting.network) (the website isn't finished, but it's good enough for now!) is a new hub for creative, community centered storytelling.

It's for the people who are already making videos about their towns, their passions, their small things. It's also for people who are tired of the algorithmic feed and want to watch something real.

The network will live on both YouTube and PeerTube. We're using the big platforms to reach people, but we're also planting a flag on the independent web. That feels important.

You can follow along on Instagram (instagram.com/communitybroadca) for updates and previews. The website and fediverse accounts are still a work in progress, but it will grow as we do.

If you want to support the work directly, we've started a Patreon (patreon.com/CommunityBroadcast). That's also where a newsletter will live, along with behind the scenes content and first looks at new videos. Your support helps us find and share more stories from more places.

    Welcome to the network!
