  1. From time to time I look at the Random selection of #ComicFury and there's really some amazing pearls there.

  3. Mostly #Wordpress, yeah, assuming they're not just hosting on the existing Webtoon/Tapas/ComicFury/etc infrastructure.

If you want something simple but customizable, give #ComicFury a try. (It's free, so if you don't stick with it, no loss.)

If you go with WP, get the #Toocheke plugin+theme combo. It's versatile, pretty easy to use, and actively being maintained.

Some creators also swear by #Grawlix. And #ComicControl is a new one in development that looks promising, but I'm not sure if it's available for beta testing yet.

  5. If you've got some extra cash and like indie comics, maybe you could consider becoming a Patreon for ComicFury! It's a great platform that imo does a much better job of supporting small artists than some of the alternatives and they're looking for support to keep the gears turning:

  7. Comics friends! I’m curious what ComicFury’s discovery is like.

Creators: Do find folks get looped into your reading audience by finding you there?

Readers: Do you find new comics to read when you’re browsing there?

Re: Twitter’s days of “anyone might stumble upon your work” are long over; communities too fractured now, algo’s bury everything. And I can’t shake the feeling that Furry Fandom is becoming indifferent to comics creators.

I’d like to make sure my stuff is findable to folks who might like it. Thanks! #comics #comicfury

  9. One of the reasons why I love #ComicFury : here's Kyo (the site owner) on why he'd rather not integrate ComicAd:

    > Mostly out of privacy concerns, I don't really want to use a third party advertising service anymore unless I really don't have a choice. Don't take that as me implying anything bad about comicad specifically though, I'm just speaking in general.

  11. And, if anyone's interested, I've also been updating my #webcomics on #comicfury so please give them a peek: comicfury.com/profile.php?user

  12. I brought the self-hosted Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan up to date with the #Comicfury version, so you can now read all the pages in a larger version with the "new" font.

  13. New reclaimed comic up!! I traded away the hardcopy of this one 2 years ago at MagWEST for a Pikachu teacup so a photo I took with my phone is all I have left. I did some photoshop magic! #art #doodle #comic #comHiks #comicfury #independentArtists #artistsOnMastodon #mastoart

  14. All right, all right, #Comicfury, I'll start updating my icons and cobbling together some sort of cover images.

  15. Delve into the mystery under the hill - not even this guy knows what's going on. Or if he does, he ain't telling. Coming soon: towerunderthehill.thecomicseries.com #comic #webcomic #fantasy #dwarves #comicfury

  16. As for customization, the big platforms don't have it and it's honestly difficult for me to tell how many people really care. But ComicFury offers almost full customization options for people who speak HTML/CSS and have a detailed design vision, including localization; and templates for people who just want to pick a style and be done. And I like that about it.

  17. Honestly, so far I don't like what I'm seeing. These are all things that should be explained well on the site itself. Especially the Adult thing is important because it seems like in the adult section, most ads are actual porn, so if any of my comics does not meet the criteria for needing to be marked as "Adult", I'd rather set it to general.
Hey, did you know that #ComicFury has granular content flags?

  18. #ComicFury is running a funding drive

If you love webcomics and know about CF, then you know why it's important to support it. If you love webcomics (or not), and don't know about CF, it's one of the if not THE last stronghold for free, accessible webcomics for new and experiences artists and authors alike that hasn't gone off the deep end, one way or the other.

  21. ComicFury needs your help to keep the lights on.

CF is an independent, donation-driven, free webcomic host that allows you to completely customize your website; it's been a pillar of indie support for 16 years. No algorithms, no ads, no bullshit.

Bicycle Boy was hosted here from 2013-2018. I have been a patron ever since. Kyo is a damn good dude and deserves every dollar.

  23. If you have a comic on #ComicFury can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF HUMANS add the frigging “Save my place/Load my place” links in your template?

Thank you very much, an avid reader of your masterpiece*

*probably. I read so many that yours are probably among them.

  25. @paulzwalker Absolutely staggering. It will go up at least to 1325 in 2025.
Other statistics: across my various projects, I caused 384 comics to be uploaded to #ComicFury in 2024, scheduled well into February of next year (with that 1300th ROCR comic on Feb.10 being both the last for the year and the final update made in 2024).

Over the years, I have placed 3163 comics on ComicFury, most of which are now also on my self-hosted site.

  27. Today in Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan at #ComicFury we're back at the monastery and Krakatoa thinks she sees a familiar face. But Abbot Lankin doesn't act like that person, and also helps Sían call out Bartholomew's bullshit.

  29. I eventually changed my mind about that and started inking and coloring some of these pages. There are still about 15 that were originally done in pencils only, published and then effectively unpublished because I didn't carry them over from my old self-hosted site to
    #Comicfury .
They will now eventually be republished and the new self-hosted website will have them in their new form. I've set a schedule and all (it's going to go on being two per week through 2025).

  31. A quick #ComicFury tip for #Webcomic creators before I go to work: If you go into the ComicFury interface and "Edit comic pages", there's a link to "Visit this comics page". If you copy that, it's a real, unchanging permalink and it looks like this: rocr.thecomicseries.com/comics
Use that in promotion. It's the permalink that never changes.

  33. So, if you ever wondered how come every #superVillain has their base in a volcano, how they got it, now you know.

  34. One of the thing I really like about #ComicFury is the “Save my place” function, very useful when reading the backlogs of comics.

  35. Fun little anecdotal analysis re #webtoons vs. #ComicFury

I started posting #LandWalk episodes to Webtoons four months ago and have gotten 263 total views.

I started posting individual pages to Comic Fury 25 days ago (shout out to the #MastoArt community for the recommendation) and am averaging ~152 viewers per day.

It's not a perfect comparison, and different comics may have different experiences, but for #indiecomics creators looking for a platform I'd def recommend checking out Comic Fury!

  36. I've started uploading my #webcomic, #LandWalk on #ComicFury and I'm pretty excited at how flexible a format it is!

Still playing around with it, but here's the link if you're interested:

  37. I'll add to that that there's another form of media that still heavily employs #RSS, and those that follow me won't be surprised by my mention of this: #webcomics.

A lot of self-hosted webcomic sites build on #WordPress, so RSS availability isn't a big surprise, but I appreciate that (or rather, when) dedicated hosting solutions also offer the feature. (#ComicFury does it, and even #WebToons, while AFAICS #Tapas does _not_.)

    5/n

  38. I do wonder if hosting platforms could do something to incentivize the use of transcripts, aside from the obvious (actually providing support for them).
For example, #ComicFury <comicfury.com> supports transcripts, in the sense that authors have the option to add a transcript to each page they upload, but how this gets to the reader depends on the template adopted by the comic, and I suspect the default ones don't actually leverage this feature, disincentivizing its usage.

  39. (And getting back to the “who should tell them?”, I know I could just write them to their contact email or reach out to them on Twitter (NO WAY AHAHAHA), but I think it would be better for these proposal to come from the webcomic authors/artists, and I'm not sure how many of them we have here on the #Fediverse. I think @ZachWeinersmith is with #HiveWorks, and @Dadaph also publishes on #ComicFury?)

  40. Of course, #ComicFury joining the #Fediverse has a “size issue” similar to that of #Tumblr: it would appear as a single instance with millions of accounts if done the naive way. OTOH, again like Tumblr, this could be done via subdomains, thus exposing one “instance” per webcomic, although I still think that a “general” CF instance would make sense, for example to follow artists across multiple works.
