  8. [#CometInterceptor] Cette nouvelle mission de l' European Space Agency - ESA sera lancée en 2028 par une fusée #Ariane6 en direction du point de lagrange L2. Elle y demeurera, le temps qu'une #comète jugée scientifiquement "intéressante" s'approche du Soleil. Elle sera ensuite placée sur une trajectoire d'interception.

    Les trois satellites qui composent cette mission embarquent une instrumentation poussée - notamment l'expérience #DFP (Dust, Field and Plasma) dédiée aux mesures multi point de l’environnement ionisé et poussiéreux d'une comète. L'un des instruments de cette expérience, l'instrument #LEES (Low-Energy Electron Spectrometer) - un #spectromètre d’électrons de basses-énergies (1 eV-1 keV) - a été conçu et réalisé par l’IRAP. Il vient de passer avec succès une série de tests environnementaux (température, vibrations et chocs) qui ont permis de vérifier son design et sa bonne tenue vis-à-vis des contraintes mécaniques et thermiques qu’il rencontrera lors de son lancement puis dans l’espace. Cette campagne de tests validée permet ainsi de lancer la fabrication du modèle de vol de l’instrument qui sera livré début 2026 à CBK en Pologne.

  10. First thing is attending (remotely) another Science Working Team meeting of #CometInterceptor. The most exciting news so far is that there will be a public competition at some point to name the spacecraft from their current boring A, B1, and B2 🙂🛰️

  11. Traveling again! Waiting for the 🚄 with a 🥐 (🔭 visible in background). I'm popping over to #Marseille for the day to see old colleagues at #LAM. Also to give a talk, and have web meetings with other colleagues and a #CometInterceptor instrument meeting. Phew, it's gonna be a busy day!

  16. [#ScienceNews @IRAP ] In 2029, the ESA and JAXA joint #CometInterceptor mission will take off from the Kourou Space Center aboard an #Ariane6. Objective: to study a #comet in its original state - or even an object of interstellar origin.

    On March 5, @IRAP delivered the functional electrical model of the Low-Energy Electron Spectrometer (1 eV-1 keV) which is part of the #DFP (Dust, Fields, Particles) experiment. The future is on the way! 👍

  18. Introduction: space plasma physicist here, at the Space Research Insitute (IWF) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) working on #Galileo (Jupiter), #Cluster, #VenusExpress, #Rosetta, #BepiColombo, #JUICE, #CometInterceptor, #HeavyMetal. Main interest is ULF waves in space plasmas.
