What the heck is this? This is basically just "it's now also illegal to be on foot in the street, in addition to how unsafe it already is".
FYI, the PDF of the proposed ordinance is pretty short -- the meat is on pages 2 to 3.

They held an open house thing for the 4-laning of Forum and I went. The concepts looked about as bad as I thought. No separated bike lanes and no traffic calming. I asked about traffic calming and they're like "we're adding roundabouts to the intersections of Woodrail and Katy, that should slow them down". Another one told me to just use the sidewalk when I ride my bike. I'm super glad this city allows it, but then why not just make mixed-use paths instead?
Also, there was some country club NIMBY complaining about how this will affect his property value. It just shows what kind of people go to these, so when your city holds one, GO TO IT.

Columbia, MO is planning on adding microtransit to our city. It's a good stop forward, and it costs way less than an Uber, but I'm afraid it's gonna have issues. It seems like taking people to bus stops from their houses is a priority, and that they won't go very far. That won't fix the main issue with the buses, which is that it can take you up to three hours to get from one stop to another. It's not gonna be convenient for traveling across town if I still need to take the regular buses.

Since we have this very active J-School in #ColumbiaMO, and we have another paper, we are not in a news desert. If you are, though, do you know if there is a trained or dedicated person filling in the gap in some way? Not necessarily speaking to the other people 'at'ed in the convo with me, but to anyone reading this. A great example is Twin City's based @bringmethenews.

Nothing much going on except for rain-rain-rain. I'm working at the #library and not eager to get off in 90 minutes. The #Mizzou university students are everywhere as this is finals week for them. And our unhomed citizens are also flocking in to stay dry. I've been able to welcome several first-time visitors today. As for me, I've been writing about New Year Resolutions for the library blog in between helping with book finding and the like. #DBRL #ColumbiaMo
