  6. Ah yes, we've entered the night are time of year for me where every..single..company decides to add a "Christmas" feel to their ads and material. e.g. red and green.

AKA the time when those of us who with #colourVisionDeficiency just...can't...read any of it and in extreme cases like mine get headaches from the constant barrage of it. Such a joyous time!

  7. Yesterday @peterrowlett asked me if I'd made a tool for simulating colour vision deficiency and I thought "yeah, that's totally the kind of thing I would have done".

Well, if I had done it, I can't find it now. So I spent an hour this morning making one:

    cvd-simulator.think.somethingo

I used the same method that Firefox's dev tools uses to simulate colour vision deficiency: multiply each pixel's (R,G,B) vector by a matrix representing the eye's response in each kind of colour receptor.

  8. I've had a go at adding a very rough simulation of colour vision deficiency to my colour palette maker, so I don't accidentally pick colours that look fine for me but are indistinguishable to someone with different colour vision.

I spent 10 minutes looking up perceptual models of CVD then gave up and just did what Firefox dev tools does and scaled down the R, G or B components πŸ˜…

  9. I have colour vision deficiency, often mistakenly called colour blindness (I can see colours).

If you are like me you might struggle to see anything but dots here

For several years I've written help guides for employers and colleagues on including people like me but I've never written anything publicly.

    Until now.

  10. In 2020 Simon Jowitt wrote a great #EGUblogs post on what it's like to research and study #mineralogy with #ColourVisionDeficiency.

As #DisabilityPrideMonth comes to a close, we revisit his excellent advice on how you too can support your students who have #ColourBlindness and other colour vision differences.
