  1. The more I look into attempting my own Doll/BJD faceups, the less I think I know about colours, and the more I realise that human faces - as an art concept - are just ~amazingly complex~ and the *tiniest details* can make a HUGE difference 🤔😑

A year ago I thought hands were too complex to wrap my brain around....

(Hands have been downgraded from ~impossible~ to just ~hard~ )

  5. @b0rk Maybe not quite what you asked for, but when I wanted to step away from frameworks and refamiliarise with CSS, I had a lot of fun (and learnt a lot) going back to first principles with colour theory and applying some of that using modern CSS. I wrote it all up a while back in case it’s of interest.

  10. Dusted off an article I wrote last year on generating OKLCH colour palettes, adding a new section exploring the limitations of linear interpolation and how easing equations solved the problem I ran into.

people who like purple are honestly just weirdos, why go for purple when you could have the beautiful 448 C instead??? maybe those people should get their eyes checked...

  19. I saw Zultanite, a rare #gem in #Turkiye that undergoes the #Alexandrite #colour change effect:

Our cones are not created equal; the short 'blue' wavelength sensor is well separated from the similar 'green' & 'red' curves 👁️

Alexandrite cuts off blue (like a yellow object) but embedded metals absorb the middle spectrum, meaning in black-body curve candlelight the 'green'/'red' ratio gets miscorrected by our colour constancy mechanisms🕯️

  23. Great links to colour-related resources in both your latest newsletters @marcthiele @smashingmag. My homespun approach isn't as sophisticated as some options covered (which I'm now going to study!), but I had fun and learned something applying colour theory using OKLCH on my recent site redesign. Wrote about it here:

  34. One way to create a visually satisfying piece is to have a unifying hue. It's a color you mix into most everything in your palette. For Yreka, I'm using Titan Green Pale. The one place I'm not using it is on the rooster farmer's head to make it stand out more. It's the surreal element and I want to drive that home by visually setting it apart as much as possible. #artwork #wip #painting #colortheory #colourtheory
