Our CTO Emerita
@rjparson spent the week discussing a range of important #AI topics at this year’s #CollisionConf in Toronto. From balancing innovation and responsibility in #EmergingTech to the future of #SaaS integration. Here are some takeaways ⤵️
📅 What’s changed over the past year?
2023 was the year of ‘proof of concept’. In 2024 only a single digit percentage of companies that were in the proof of concept stage actually made it into production.

A bit random, but I'm proud to say I just completed a 4-day business trip using only my backpack!

Just got back from #CollisionConf in Toronto, a tech conference (*not* a dev conference) with 40k attendees.
I met over 100 lovely people and had lots of great conversations.
But OMG the hype around AI in the talks was overwhelming and dystopic. Investors and startups both ramping up the AI hype with the hopes that they'll get filthy rich. Very little substance or detail.
Still, there were a few cool AI tools, some I might start using.
I'll do a more thorough write-up in my newsletter soon..

Wrapping up an awesome day at #CollisionConf! So glad to have met so many entrepreneurs in Toronto and Canada using ML and LLMs to build cool new products! And the talks by Geoffrey Hinton and other amazing speakers made it even better!

#CollisionConf airport-transit FYI: While it's usually cheaper to pay the fare for the Union Pearson Express with a Presto card ($9.25 instead of the usual $12.35), buying a ticket online with the code "collision2023" drops that cost to $7.41. https://www.upexpress.com/en/buy-tickets

"AI can help me, but now theoretically it can replace me": my Fast Co. editor @harrymccracken in a #CollisionConf panel about generative AI and journalism. But the first outcome seems more likely, and it could cut down on some drudgery--like having gen AI "fill out those boring SEO fields in the CMS."

Surprisingly moving moment at #CollisionConf: seeing five immigrants become Canadian citizens. I loved this advice from the citizenship judge to those five about why they should vote: "Think of it as laying a brick in the wall of Canadian democracy that's got your name on it and your wishes for the future."

if you're speaking at Collision in Toronto this week and you don't talk about AI like how you talked about blockchain last year, did you even speak at Collision at all?

#GenerativeAI has great potential, but we need to consider how to use it responsibly.
Our CTO Emerita, Rebecca Parsons, will be speaking at #CollisionConf to cover the potential applications and mitigations for #AI.
Don't miss her talk at 11:00am EDT on June 28 on SaaS Monster Stage if you're going.
Who do you think should be responsible for regulating generative AI?
