This coleslaw cabbage biryani is the ultimate use it up recipe that turns leftover coleslaw mix, shredded cabbage, or any chopped vegetables into a fragrant, one-pot meal. Rather than letting those forgotten veggie scraps sit in the crisper, you can repurpose by stirring them into curry paste and basmati rice for a biryani ready in under 30 minutes! You’re simultaneously tackling food waste whilst creating something satisfying that the whole family can enjoy. So, the next time you have a random mix of vegetables in the fridge or leftover coleslaw from dinner, give this coleslaw cabbage biryani recipe a try!
Ingredients:
2 tbsp veg oil
2 onions, thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
2 cups leftover coleslaw mix, shredded cabbage, or any chopped vegetables
3 tbsp curry paste (whatever you have)
1 1/4 cups rice (we used basmati)
Handful nuts (optional, we used almonds)
Handful currants, raisins or sultanas (optional)
1 apple, chopped (optional)Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan forced. In an oven proof dish, heat the oil. 2. Add onion, garlic, and coleslaw mix (or cabbage, or any veg). Cook until soft.
3. Add curry paste and cook for another 2 minutes. Add rice, nut and fruit (if using).
4. Pour in coconut milk and 1 1/4 cup water. Bring to a simmer. Cover with lid and put in oven for 20 minutes.
5. Check rice is tender (if not – pop it back in for 5 minutes). Remove and let stand for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve! "Source:

One of the happy successes this year was the mini cabbage. We got 2 different varieties at the suggestion of our daughter. We planted "Tiara" and "Caraflex" both from Johnnies. One is pointy and one is round, can't remember which is which.The small heads are great on the mandolin slicing for coleslaw.And now that the carrots are ready, we can make lots! The second planting really loved the cool, wet August.

I went out for a pub lunch yesterday and had a burger which came with coleslaw, which was described on the menu as just "slaw".
And this is not the first time I've seen a menu describing "slaw".
What's that about? Was coleslaw named after a Mr Cole who people have recently realised was some kind of evil slave trader or something and who doesn't deserve to be remembered?
Or is there some other reason why half the letters in my coleslaw disappeared?

Abendessen: BBQ-Tofu (okay) mit selbstgemachten Pommes (geil) und heute Mittag vorbereitetem Coleslaw (Moaaah.. so gut!) mit Walnüssen, Ahornsirup, geröstetem Sesamöl und Saurer Sahne. Hab so n fancy neues Küchengadget, ähnlich einem Sparschäler, mit dem ich den Weißkohl in hauchdünne Schnipsel schnitzen kann und die andere Konsistenz macht's einfach richtig gut. Der Tofu war nett, wie befürchtet war er aber zu fett geschnitten, meine 5-Minuten-BBQ-Sauce verlor sich da würztechnisch etwas.

Radish, carrot, apple, bok choy slaw (dressed with apple cider vinegar, olive oil, and some maple syrup) turned out pretty good on the second day. The first day it was still a little too harsh, but once everything had soaked in, it was nice.
Tonight I'm going to try roasting radishes.

Der Cole Slaw ist schnell und einfach zubereitet, der Aufwand ist gering, er kann zwar gleich gegessen werden, sollte aber, so die Empfehlung von uns, etwas ziehen, um sich zu entfalten.

#Kimchi is pure tangy awesomeness. Some might find it a tad spicy, but then portion appropriately; it's not burning chili hot.
#Sauerkraut is alright and sometimes even #coleslaw gets the job done, but given a choice...
