after the previously released split-tape of THERE ARE NO BIRDS HERE and COLDSORE on TOTES FORMAT a few years back, we decided to collaborate under the new guise of THE SORE BIRDS ARE COLD HERE. we have done so on and off for about a year in a very relaxed anti-work manner, with zero stress about productivity, since we like work to be play.
unfortunately very delayed due to a breakdown of the over 2 decades old CD-burner from extreme frost exposure in the TOTES FORMAT storage facility (a woodshed) we are happy to present you this first release of our new project.
after a new burner was assembled from scraps, it was possible to make the first batch of 25 mini-CDrs in hand printed covers made from recycled frozen pizza boxes. this CDr contains one long-form drone / field-recording assemblage, that is based on actions of trespassing and reclaiming zones, that once were commons and have now fallen into the greedy hands of those considered to be in power over our existence in the world (on the land). this is an ode to broken down fences, busted doors, cracked locks, ladders traversing walls and acts of tunneling free.
white and silver mini CDrs in hand-printed recycled cardboard stock envelope. stapled with rubber-printed title info and label logo, as well as a copy number indicator. the printed pattern is done with found off-set ink and a piece of birch bark with bug larvae tunnels. the cardboard used to be frozen vegan pizza boxes. the top side of the CDr is marked with a X. limited edition of 25 copies. released by TOTES FORMAT.

Compared to the previous parts of this series, this one is rather quiet and melancholic - a sombre mixture of drum'n'drone with a few environmental recordings including those of acoustic instruments played in oppressive urban spaces for donations and a processed guitar recording of my friend P., that has been written during the eviction and destruction of the Hambacher Wald in favor of the ever expanding motorway network, a clear invitation to the fossil-fuel/rare-earth guzzling automobile culture to persist and by that continue to destroy this earth. I myself have tried for many years to defend some of the last remaining patches of forests and it’s inhabitants against these motorway expansions, that not only slice the habitats of wildlife into tiny pieces, but that are also the veins that pump the toxic sludge of capitalist trade, extraction and exploitation into the most remote places.

Compared to the previous parts of this series, this one is rather quiet and melancholic - a sombre mixture of drum'n'drone with a few environmental recordings including those of acoustic instruments played in oppressive urban spaces for donations and a processed guitar recording of my friend P., that has been written during the eviction and destruction of the Hambacher Wald in favor of the ever expanding motorway network, a clear invitation to the fossil-fuel/rare-earth guzzling automobile culture to persist and by that continue to destroy this earth. I myself have tried for many years to defend some of the last remaining patches of forests and it’s inhabitants against these motorway expansions, that not only slice the habitats of wildlife into tiny pieces, but that are also the veins that pump the toxic sludge of capitalist trade, extraction and exploitation into the most remote places.

GRM performed as COLDSORE with an array of their self build METSÄÄN MACHINES, namely the Musique Concrète Platform (bowed, plugged, stroked and scratched), Dirty Drone synth, ANAPHYLAXIS filter + some EHX pedals. Beware: This is the most 'dark ambient' recording of COLDSORE this far.
Before the instrumental set, GRM made a short rather abstract vocal intro about noise, traffic, communication, transparency, responsibility, disruption of deeply engraved patterns of social behavior and complicity.
And asked the audience to talk more about normalisation + disruption!
