  1. #LibraryOfThings - #OnlineToolkit

"A Library of Things (LoT) is a community hub for sharing all kinds of stuff. LoTs follow the traditional mechanics of a library while pushing the boundaries of what can be borrowed: tools, instruments, camping gear, toys, kitchen gadgets, and more! They build community while providing a low-cost, #EnvironmentallyFriendly way to meet our material needs.

"There are roughly 2,000 formally established LoTs worldwide, as well as countless informal ones. Modern LoTs have been in operation since 1978, but informal resource sharing has always been an essential part of the human experience. Many of the largest LoTs in the US started to lend tools, but they can contain whatever items the community of members needs that can be shared safely and effectively.

"#Shareable has supported the development of several LoTs over the past decade. Projects have included an official advisory role to the former mayor of Seoul, South Korea, as they developed a pilot program with 32 lending libraries in apartment buildings, an inspiration and advisory role on the creation of #LaBOM, a three-story community center and #SharingHub in Montreuil, France, and the incubation of the #USToolLibraryAlliance.

"In 2022, we began a multi-year international research project into the current state of LoTs. Following the public release of our findings, we hosted a year-long Library of Things #CoLab and Fellowship and published a free, comprehensive Library of Things Toolkit."

  6. I've been watching #DeathInParadise, a very easily digestible set in the #Caribbean on an island in #Guadalupe. Each episode is usually a murder case, where the main character - in the first couple of seasons, an inspector from London - sticks out like a sore thumb, but somehow manages to crack the case with the help of the local police department. As far as I know, it's a #colab between British, French and Dutch television that started back in 2015.

It's neither super sophisticated, nor high art, but I have to admit I enjoy the Caribbean vibe, the mystery and the characters, even if they aren't exactly complicated. You could say it's my guilty pleasure.

One thing bugs the living shit out of me though. I'm at season 2 now, and all of the monitors in the police station are still unplugged. Sure, there's a signal (VGA) cable permanently attached to the monitor, but no power cable.

    Annoying AF.

  16. @mnl @khinsen @dch yes, I completely agree. I've been developing a #colab since late 2024 at work for one of my projects and it has been a great experience. Adding features and making it reproducible and fast/efficient has been relatively easy, and it can be naturally ported to any workflow engine/pipeline architecture you want if the need arises.

  17. I stress-tested Google’s new Colab MCP server with a real quantum workflow.

An AI agent took a blank Colab notebook and:
    • installed dependencies
    • fixed Qiskit compatibility issues
    • ran a 15-point H2 scan
    • submitted a real job to IBM Quantum hardware

This is where Colab gets interesting: not just notebook editing, but agent-operated cloud execution.

  22. Do you also use #Colab for workshops and tutorials on #LLMs? Today I decided to write a small widget to make my next talk more interactive: a very simple chat UI that lives in the output cell without blocking the notebook's execution.

  30. My 1st Europass Course – GeoGebra and Python for STEM and STEAM Teachers

Last week I  held the course at the Finnish Europass premises on Annankatu. I had five marvelous teachers from Slovenia and Italy. The course went well and based on the feedback, the participants also learned something new about GeoGebra and Python. I learnt a lot.

During the week, we became familiar with the Finnish school system, GeoGebra, and the Python programming language. All the examples were mathematical. Lesson topics: “What is GeoGebra”, “Basics, graphing with sliders”, “Geometrical constructions”, “Statistics and spreadsheet ”, “CAS and 3D”, “Lists and sequence command”, “Problem solving with GeoGebra”, “ Python with Colab, the basics, int, float, str, list”, “Functions, for loop with if statement, while,  plotting functions”, ”Monte Carlo method”, “Turtle graphics” and “AI, mathematical modules”.

For GeoGebra examples I used GeoGebra Book in Materials as a sharing point and for Python Colab files Google Drive Folder.

  36. #vibecoding what was before that #chatcoding (so last month-year..)?!, The pace of change this past couple years has been simply amazing to live during. In the past few months I've taken to using #CluadeAI etc, via their chat interfaces (takes a village style development), it's a very weird thing to be able to iterate and throw away so much, no debugging if it doesn't work reword/retry or throw away, kind of like carving software out of putty. amazing times! I don't think twice about throwing together an #artifact or a #colab notebook. I might never execute a piece of code on local silicon again in a few months; exciting and worrying times.
