  6. Social Bonds Protect Aging Brains

Social isolation can potentially harm brain structure and cognitive performance, suggesting an increased risk of conditions like Alzheimer’s dementia.
A lack of quality social interaction can lead to a decrease in the hippocampus’s volume, crucial for memory formation and retrieval, and poorer cognitive performance.

  10. Running Rewires the Aging Brain: Exercise Protects Memory Function

Physical activity, particularly running, has been found to rewire aging brains, helping to preserve memory functions.
Long-term running keeps older neurons wired, potentially preventing age-related memory loss and neurodegeneration.

  14. Alzheimer’s Drug Lecanemab Shields Brain from Free-Roaming Amyloid Fibrils

Amyloid beta protein forms small aggregates that disrupt brain function in Alzheimer’s disease.
Lecanemab, a recently FDA-approved Alzheimer’s treatment, can neutralize these disruptive aggregates, hinting at its potential to slow down the disease’s cognitive decline.

  15. 🇬🇧The 23th of April or the 2nd of March? #worldbookday
Anyway, my diseases stolen me one of my passion due to #brainfog. But I'm stubborn and I started reading last year again: comics instead thick books.

Web view has a translator but you can read the post using other options from your device.

  16. I self censor A LOT of my thoughts on here. I may want to reply but it can be very hard to know what to say that would be helpful, and kind, and also strike the right tone.

That's why I often just click the star (favourite) button and don't reply. At least then folks know that their comment was seen and appreciated.

  17. @PanickedFoodie Congrats on doing injections! I hope they help. I gave myself B12 injections for 2+ years (mid 1990s, can't remember exact dates). Not sure whether they helped me but they didn't hurt anything.

Back to the topic, I'm sure there are many things that I can't remember now but I'm proud I was able to make a mastodon account. Then I even managed to transfer my account to #Disabled Social without too much trouble!

  18. My other half bought some extra Christmas lights today and hung them up in the living room on a really flashy setting while I was picking up my eldest from school.

I've pretty much been sitting right in front of them for 4 hours and I've only just noticed them ... 🤦‍♀️

  19. @ninahatfield My nephew (when he was much younger) once saw one of my task lists that included things like "brush teeth." So he asked me why I had to include them.😬

I was embarrassed, but I was able to have an age appropriate conversation about cognitive dysfunction/brain fog.

  20. Multimodal neuroimaging in post-COVID syndrome and correlation with cognition.

Post-COVID syndrome patients presented persistent structural and functional brain abnormalities in cortical, limbic and cerebellar areas 11 months after the acute infection. These changes are associated with cognitive dysfunction and contribute to a better understanding of the pathophysiology of the post-COVID syndrome.
