The closing paragraph on a blog post I was reading over coffee this morning really hit home:
I’m not convinced that LLMs are the future. I’m certainly not convinced that they’re the future I want. But what I’m most certain of is that we have choices about what our future should look like, and how we choose to use machines to build it.
Don’t let inevitabilism frame the argument and take away your choice. Think about the future you want, and fight for it.
To me that means careful consideration of LLMs based on the facts, thinking about how and should we use them, and then intentionally shaping the discourse around them in our social circles and society at large.
Wdyt? How do we influence the discourse around LLMs and have a dialogue about the clear negative aspects, without belittling those who use it nor having folks entrench themselves in defense?

These hiking socks have a brand name knitted into the fabric in large block letters over the instep. It’s upside down from the POV of the wearer. Who is it for? When I have big work deadlines (like the one coming up at the end of March), I have a hard time turning my brain off for the weekend.
Sure it's Saturday and the weather is nice... But I could be deploying Exbin and seeding it with leaked credentials for the event participants.
I could just sit and enjoy my coffee, but what if instead I put some more thought on how to handle some of the exploit path breadcrumbs?
These events are roughly once a year - I've been fortunate to not get burn out, but I feel the need to really watch myself.

Every workday morning I slowly come back to consciousness about 10 minutes before the alarm goes off. Every morning I think - Did the alarm already go off? Did I oversleep? Sometimes I look. When the alarm goes off, I turn it off (not snooze) and lay back down for about 10 minutes. I know. Pretty risky, right? Risk is my middle name. -

I’m a feral engineer.
In 25 years workin for the man I always had a manager, never had any management. Plenty of pay rises. Never had feedback, never had a one on one, never had goals, nor a growth plan. Almost never any kind of training or professional development. Never had a performance review. As they say, “star whales aren’t aware of vacuum”.
Five plus years after going to work for myself I realize I’m still feral. My manager (me) still does not do enough to nurture me, and I suffer for it still.

Sometimes I think we use social media to curate an image of the life we want people to believe we're living.
