  5. Roasting coffee again, this one I'm really excited about: this is a gesha variety from the same crop in Peru, one batch dry (also called natural) processed and the other wet (washed) processed. I tried roasting them about the same (as close to City as I can with my clunky drum roaster), so the main difference will be in how they were processed.

See alt text for my initial take on how well I roasted the two batches. They need to rest and degas before I can brew them and do a side by side tasting.

  8. Fine, filmed a video of the DIY coffee roaster (edited to make it shorter and remove all the goofs, lol)

Ignore the slight focus snafu (reflective metal, should have turned off autofocus... grrrr...). And, having never edited a video on kdenlive, added the timecode on the last bit 🤪

(Yes, I need to figure out how to publish stuff on Peertube)

  9. Final roasted product! It went a little farther than I wanted, but the headlamp I was using ran out of batteries and I had no visual of the roast at the end. These are halfway between first and second crack, I believe. I was aiming for slightly lighter. This is REALLY consistent roasting compared with my usual. #coffee #roasting #diy #coffeeroaster

  10. Once that was fixed, determined it was having issues if coffee was over the shaft in depth. Not a lot of capacity. Half of a Talenti container. #diy #coffeeroaster

  11. First bean test... failure! The angled metal failed to resist the weight of beans. I pulled them from the shaft and pushed the collars and bent the disk. #diy #coffeeroaster

  12. Pizza pan parts made. Built my own round stock from pizza pan parts. #diy #coffeeroaster

  13. Handful of beans as a test. Looks like I need to snug up the shaft collars. #coffeeroaster #diy

  14. Variable power bench (er... floor) supply. The drill works! (Snagged it for free somewhere) 1.0V to 2.0V seems more than adequate for a slow rotation. Shaft off an old printer, will need to be cut down with a hacksaw. Various YouTube versions seem to make the sifter part removable with some kind of shaft coupling. Needs a metal plate for a "wobble roaster" to stir the beans. #diy #coffeeroaster #coffee

    我們咖啡店很小,但盡用了店舖外面的空間,今天多雲,生意算可以,但當然可以更好,希望越來越好。🙏
Our cafe is very small. We have used the space outside our cafe as much as possible. Today is cloudy. Business is OK but certainly can be better. Hope that our coffee business will become better and better.

  18. Coffee drinkers that buy roasted beans - especially in Berlin!
Do you care about waste through packaging? Are there any local roasters that allow you to reduce waste by using refillable containers?
