The Easy Trick to the Best Homemade Iced Latte, According to Baristas

DutchReview: Sun’s out? Find the best terraces in the Netherlands with this handy tool. “Koffieindezon uses public 3D building models and the sun’s current position to simulate where shadows fall in real time. Think Google Maps, but much hotter. Just open the site, zoom in on the map, and voilà: you get a live view of where the sun is shining at that very moment. You can fast-forward […]

I loathe how overpriced coffee chains are.
Even the Indian ones, like Cafe Coffee Day.One tiny coffee costs some ₹350. :blobcatgoogly: That's like ₹40 per sip 😬
They don't even focus on the quality of food. Shitty portion sizes and shittier taste.
And the icing on the cake is that they want you to download their stupid apps, and share all your data with them so they can do their stupid personalisation.
I do like Chai Point, though! I can get a little tea for ₹23 :blobcatgiggle: And Chayoos too! And they got Free high-speed wi-fi! :amaze:

Revocup: Local Coffeehouse Chain
I first heard about Revocup in the late 2010s when Daniel Fikru, owner of the Blue Nile Cafe, told me about the coffeehouse. I have worked with the Blue Nile Cafe for around 15 years, so I’m very familiar with Ethiopian coffee and the origins of coffee in that country.
Revocup was started in 2008 by Habte Metfins, a native of Ethiopia. I first visited the original location at Quivira and College Blvd (Overland Park) in the late 2010s. I remember enjoying the coffee and the ambiance of the store, which is across the street from the junior college. But the location wasn’t near my regular routes and I stopped visiting coffee shops during the early years of the pandemic.
In 2023, I discovered the Revocup at Leawood Town Center (which is independently owned) and in 2024, the store at 135th Street in Overland Park. The Town Center location has grown to being one of my favorite indie coffee houses.
All of the locations sell the bagged fresh roasted coffee. I haven’t tried preparing any of their offerings at home yet.
The staff have always been amazingly friendly at every location, each time I’ve dropped in.
They offer food, mostly desserts and bakery, and frozen drinks.

My favorite coffees at this location are their mocha lattes. I’m a mocha guy. My favorite is their Redbone, a raspberry and dark chocolate flavored mocha. I also like their White Zebra mocha and this week I tried their February special: Lover’s Mocha. This is a strawberry and chocolate mocha. Their mochas always have the right amount of flavoring. It doesn’t overwhelm the coffee.
The space might be another store front at the massive Leawood Town Center, but the owners of this independent location have decorated the space with cozy signs, nice furniture, and art from local artists. Whenever I visit in the mornings, the place is full of people hanging out, studying, and meeting with friends and clients.
Overland Park – 135th Street
I’m very grateful that there is an indie coffee shop along the 135th Street corridor, as there are so many corporate chains. The Revocup in south Overland Park may exist in a strip mall store front facing 135th Street, but it has a welcoming vibe. On one of my visits, I had a fun conversation with the barista, who is a fellow Swiftie.

“Vugs is minder te spreken over de kwaliteit van hasj. Ook de diversiteit aan hasjsoorten is onvoldoende. Burgemeester Weterings vindt dat eveneens ‘een punt van zorg’.”

🇸🇬Forum: Biggest challenge #hawkers face is #economics, not #consumer #culture
"Coffee shops changing hands for #millions of dollars shows tt many #investors see #coffeeshops as #speculative #assets to be flipped, rather than #businesses to be operated. #SocialMedia #Algorithms #Instagram #RecommendationEngines #CoffeeShops: "Social media acumen requires awareness of each platform’s recommendation algorithm. Walsh observed that some companies may have great stories to tell, but they “are not attempting to keep up with these algorithmic patterns that will allow them to be visible to a larger audience”. Maybe they don’t post often enough, or they don’t keep up with shifts, such as Instagram promoting videos more than still images, a particularly stark change that occurred around 2022 as the platform attempted to mimic TikTok. Staying on top of what the algorithm demands is not easy, and even well-informed guesswork doesn’t always produce results. As Walsh told me: “We’ve put a lot of time and energy into creating beautiful content. But as a result of that algorithm, we find we’re not necessarily hitting as many eyeballs as we think we could or should, and sometimes that can be a little disheartening.”
“I hate the algorithm. Everyone hates the algorithm,” said Anca Ungureanu, the owner and founder of Beans & Dots, a coffee company in Bucharest, Romania, with its original location in a former printing plant. Her goal was to build “something that did not exist at that moment in Bucharest” – a space that was, at least aesthetically, non-local. It draws an international crowd; when someone searches Google for speciality coffee shops in Bucharest, Beans & Dots pops up. Ungureanu developed an Instagram account full of cappuccino snapshots and more than 7,000 followers, but grew frustrated when she felt that the platform was taking away her ability to access her audience through the feed. When her cafe started selling coffee online, Facebook and Instagram seemed to throttle its reach – unless it bought advertising and boosted the social media company’s own profits. It felt like algorithmic blackmail: pay our toll or we won’t promote you.
(...)
Other cafe owners I spoke to made the same complaint." -
Quietly wonderful.
Mrs Miasma and I got up early (for us,) this morning and found our way to a little coffee shop/bakery named "Innominate" in Ranchester, Wyoming. It's about a 20 minute drive by highway from where we live but absolutely worth it.
They make all their baked goods at a table behind the display case and cash register. As you would expect, the place smells amazing.
If you're up this way (or down this way) you should make the effort to find them.
