this was the 1st peer-review paper i ever co-authored. truth be told, i was working in the same lab as the lead author, and contributed almost nothing to the manuscript, or the concept behind it! the lead author had already left the lab, and i never met him. but, i was still part of the team, and i learned a lot by helping them with the revisions needed to get this published. also, it's a pretty cool finding even 25 years later! #biology #evolution #codon #genetics

`Through genome-wide CRISPR screening, we identified the RNA-binding protein DHX29 as a critical regulator of codon-dependent gene expression. Cryogenic electron microscopy and selective ribosome profiling demonstrated that DHX29 directly interacts with the A-site entrance of the translating 80S ribosome... These findings establish a mechanistic link between synonymous codon usage and the regulation of gene expression.`

New tool!
https://keiran-rowell.github.io/assets/interactive/codon-rarity-viewer/
I vibe coded a web app version of my Rare Codon Table #python script🧬 🧮 maps rare codons onto a PDB structure.
I originally wrote a script to find protein codon rarity differences in mammalian -> bacterial expression projects.
🐍 Runs entirely locally via Pyodide — your data never leaves your browser (no server uploads)
Feedback warmly welcomed! Please let me know if there are any issues.

@mlinksva @mpweiher Still can't find the one I'm looking for, but #codon is another recent "slight superset to a subset" of Python approach as opposed to Mojo's "add new stuff" approach to modifying Python.
docs.exaloop.io/codon/general/…
It looks to me, just at a quick glance, that Mojo syntax additions to Python could have been Python-compatible additions in the form of decorators that are noop or validating at runtime on CPython, perhaps validating on mypy, and allowing tight compilation on mojo.

#Codon is a high-performance #Python #compiler that compiles Python code to native machine code without any runtime overhead. Codon's performance is typically on par with (and sometimes better than) that of C/C++ -

IEEE Spectrun shares my excitment about #MIT's #Codon, a framework to build #Python code into more efficient native binaries using #LLVM: https://spectrum.ieee.org/python-compiler
Not all libraries are available, some have to be modified to be ported, but that's pushing it forward.
