  1. 🚀 Breaking News: #CodeMirror now supports #collaborative editing! 🛠️ Just kidding, it's the same old story with a "very boring" #design. 🤦‍♂️ Marijn spent time exploring 'interesting' ideas, only to land on the groundbreaking conclusion that... none worked. 🥱

  6. I'm trying to write a #Lezer grammar (for use in #CodeMirror) for Markless and ... god it's making me want to die, I really don't understand how I'm supposed to do things that seem simple to me like "if nothing else matches do this".

  9. We solved browser-native spell checking in #CodeMirror 5.

    Plus other native text-based features:

    💬 Speech-to-text
    🤖 #AI-assisted writing

  10. Sharing this little prototype of a tool i've been working on. It is basically a combination of a "DAW" with a code editor (with the timeline more like a Tracker, vertical).

You can put regions of code on the timeline and type different code per region. When the playhead reaches the block the code is "evaluated" (as-in, it is send over osc to some place where you want it to be interpreted). The main reason I created it was for making compositions out of previous live coded performances, where I kept logs of what I evaluated during the show.

It is a work in progress, but if you find this useful feel free to give it a go! I've mainly designed it for my language @mercury, but you can surely adapt it to other languages as well (or just ignore the syntax highlighting, haha). Created with node, js, p5 and codemirror.

A little video attached to demonstrate the idea.

  11. Open source software:

#miniflux — I know nothing about the author, but you can just taste the personality everywhere: miniflux.app/opinionated.html

#codemirror — also very opinionated, and a very strong personality behind it (Marijn Haverbeke)

  12. I'm currently working on #CodeMirror (aka t3editor) integration for my #TYPO3 extension #warming. 🤩

The upcoming version will assist you in defining extension configuration for crawlers, clients, parsers, ... This makes it waaay easier to find the correct configuration properties. 😊

    Stay tuned! 🚀

  13. I am enjoying–so far–updating my app to use codemirror.net/ instead of the venerable Ace Editor. It's very modular and looks to be well documented. Seems like a better candidate than Ace for making a WYSIWYG Markdown editor, which I think I need to offer to users who want it.

    #markdown #codemirror #javascript

  14. Pausing for a bit on that because it's frustrating, I figured out a way to get CodeMirror bundled! It's a bit annoying, and I would so much rather prefer a simpler way of doing it, or at least better documentation on ***how***

    ***#webdev #codemirror***

  15. Heyo, kinda a random request, but would somebody with access to #nodejs (and a bundler) be able to bundle CodeMirror (w/ some extensions) for me?

(I'm unable to bundle it myself since I'm currently working off a school chromebook)

    #codemirror #webdev #dev #programming #devhelp

  17. (Looking for help)

I've spent a solid day now just trying to figure out where to even begin with #codemirror, does anybody have any good starting places?

I've been using the cdn for now, but I can't figure out how to get anywhere beyond the main style and script, and a mode- I want to figure out how to use add-ons, themes and the like, but it's just confusing me

  18. @rauschma @marijn I originally used Lezer for dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3624007 but quickly realized it's a bit too limited for this use case, so I switched to #treesitter. Nonetheless Lezer comes to use in the project as github.com/niklaskorz/puredit is based on #CodeMirror.

    Danke sag' ich dazu!

Edit: #FediLZ darf natürlich nicht fehlen. 😉

  20. We just had a big problem with #CodeMirror highlighting and were not able to find a solution beside removing it all together. So we did that and opened an issue with them in the hope to get this resolved in a few days. The correct answer was given in 3 minutes. On a Sunday. Best support ever!

  21. YEEESSS!! I finally fixed this weird #CSS overflow bug I had with #CodeMirror, where the surrounding container always expanded in it's width, when passing a certain char count on a line.

I've tried everything: max-width, flex: 0 yada yada, nothing helped.

Until I stumbled across this innocent looking thread:
    discuss.codemirror.net/t/size-

    The trick:
    1. `position: relative` for the surrounding container
    2. `position: absolute !important` for CodeMirror itself

    Very happy right now!😊

  22. Urgh, there are a gazillion monaco-editor-vue3 packages on npm.

How should you find the right one?

    Does anyone have a recommendation?

Or maybe a lighter-weight alternative to monaco?

Edit: @niklaskorz has recommended #CodeMirror, which looks great! Thank you! ❤️

  25. Doesn't implement many Ex commands, but enough for daily use - :sort and :%s/// for example. Search works, with regex, and navigating search results functions. Etc.

Seems weird that #CodeMirror's README (#Obsidian uses that JS lib for the #vim support) doesn't document a lot of this, but maybe I'm missing a real doc somewhere.

  26. While not entirely certain... i think I've stumbled across something important:

Most people do work using other peoples' applications which don't necessarily map 1:1 to their domain. In my case: I code, but also do a fair amount of product-manager style work. I want to be as productive in my job as when I'm pure coding.

'm making an editor (using #deno, #codemirror) which is super minimal, but is extensible through react components.

Imagine obsidian but open source. #basb #secondbrain

  27. Happy to see you here @marijn! #CodeMirror 6 helped me greatly in implementing the concepts of my master thesis (github.com/niklaskorz/puredit), it's an amazing project.

  28. Codemirror ist irgendwie das am schlimmsten dokumentierte Stück Software oder? Kennt sich jemand… damit aus? #codemirror
