I know that for us, coming from a very religious tribe called Romania, Christmas was more about the Christmas tree, presents, food and Coca-Cola. Oh and watching Home Alone on repeat. Nothing to do with the original Christmas “holy” day. Or anything Romanian specific either.
And so it was the case for everyone I knew. And that’s one of the many “holy” days that today have become mostly about consuming.
The forces of our trade-based society with its marketing tentacles, are transforming the culture more than any dictators and philosophers do. That you should keep in mind.

Just saw one of the silliest Coca-Cola ads I've ever seen while waiting for the Hadestown proshoot to start. Imagine a gospel choir singing with glass bottles of Coca-Cola and not a single person in the choir has taken a sip of their Coke because carbonated beverages are terrible for your vocal cords.
