Writing a Player Guide To The City-States of the Eresh Protectorate

There’s this great tabletop RPG channel called Astral Marmot. Watching her (I think her? If I have that wrong, sorry, this is not intentional), one of her videos presented the idea of Visitor’s Guides. The idea of a big lorebook for reference (which is entirely for my own benefit) is a nice thing to have, but players need something that’s more comparable to a pamphlet is a great idea.

I thought I’d get to work on that kind of thing for the next game I made; my guide to Gyre was really detailed and I had fun writing it, but it was by no means player-approachable. I do have some neurodivergent players that are absolutely able to grind through that information but I don’t think that means it’s fun for them to do that.

Below the fold, I’m going to present something of the problem I’m trying to address, the thing I want to enable, and how it’s meant to interact with the earlier guides to different knightly orders. This is an expansion of that. This jumps from ‘here’s an idea’ to a long discussion of a bunch of game lore, and I don’t want to subject a reader who isn’t interested in the lore to that as much as the example of what to do, how to approach it.
