Australia’s beaches are not just postcard scenery. They are living ecosystems, natural storm barriers and places of deep cultural and community value. As climate change accelerates sea level rise and extreme weather, coastal erosion is becoming impossible to ignore. This is not a distant future problem. It is happening now, reshaping shorelines and putting homes, wildlife and public access at risk.
The answer is not endless seawalls and short term fixes that push the problem further down the coast. We need smarter planning, protection of dunes and wetlands, and a serious commitment to working with nature rather than against it.
