  3. Australia’s beaches are not just postcard scenery. They are living ecosystems, natural storm barriers and places of deep cultural and community value. As climate change accelerates sea level rise and extreme weather, coastal erosion is becoming impossible to ignore. This is not a distant future problem. It is happening now, reshaping shorelines and putting homes, wildlife and public access at risk.
The answer is not endless seawalls and short term fixes that push the problem further down the coast. We need smarter planning, protection of dunes and wetlands, and a serious commitment to working with nature rather than against it. Saving our beaches means stronger climate action, better coastal policy and leadership that values long term resilience over quick political wins.

Difficult decisions are going to have to made and there needs to be more of a national conversation I agree.

These things are nice to preserve, but not vital. The risk will soon be to whole communities.

  6. Ireland's east coast railway line from Dublin to Wicklow is in trouble. #ClimateChange has accelerated #coastalErosion, requiring protective works which will impede the glorious sea views.

The northern part of the route, from #Dublin to #DunLaoghaire, is one of the oldest in the world. The Dublin and Kingstown Railway opened in 1834, only 4 years after the pioneering Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The line continued to Dalkey in the 1840s, and to Wicklow in 1854. >>
