I know so many indie or hobby musicians and all of them are building home studios so they can record whenever the fancy takes them, so they're all buying basically the same equipment individually, most slowly over time because they can't afford it.
Seems like prime co-op territory. Anyone want to start a DIY recording studio?
We could have one central person with a garage they're willing to sacrifice so that we don't have to pay much rent, then everybody else pitches in whatever equipment they already have and then the membership capital is used to do acoustic treatment and we'd already have a pretty good start. Expand into permanent studio space later once you have enough capital in the co-op.

This is a great episode from "More Perfect Union" on how the co-op model can help bring back more control to employees and communities. The examples in the video are from the States, but the problems are universal and the solutions can be adapted just about anywhere.

@ben in my opinion there is tension between building pro-social #technology and having a sustainable business within a capitalist environment. An interesting mental exercise is to think what technology would we build was it not for the constraints that come with #capitalism Beyond this, it's indeed wrong to say that all initiatives engaging in market activities are extractive. For example, I do believe that #coops have an important role to play in any democratic, post-capitalist transition, as they can be the vehicles where livelihoods are created while we are educated to desire and think differently. But it's important to maintain a political character, try to de-commodify aspects of social life, and connect organically with other coops and social movements.

Wir waren vorletzte Woche auf der ersten Konferenz für und von Worker-Coops, Kollektivbetriebe und daran Interessierte. Bei der "Inseln der Kooperationen" durften wir auch eine schnelle Session mit anbieten und es gab tolle Gespräche, viele spannende Synergien und interessanten Input.
