We have tried the supply-only, deregulation-first approach for years. It has produced record construction in some periods and record unaffordability in the same places. The dirt under the building continues to inflate faster than incomes. Halving development charges and gutting inclusionary zoning will not break that cycle. It will merely subsidize and protect the participants who have profited most from it.

Increased density or reduced charges should be granted only in exchange for substantial, permanent affordability — through strong inclusionary requirements, public land trusts or direct capture of land lift to fund non-market housing.

@jfmezei I don't think that's fair to Mr. Guilbeault. My interpretation of his actions is that he decided the Transmountain Pipeline Expansion was a necessary evil in order to bring in the #CarbonTax. He was ready to make that compromise, but left cabinet once #MarkCarney zeroed out the tax and made it clear that more pipelines were likely.

Let’s say that Carney’s speech is the moment that a line in the sand is drawn, and all the countries need to pick a side, but we get to pick our allies like picking teams on the school yard.
Which country are you picking first?
For me, it’s #Australia. 🇦🇺
My choice has nothing to do with military or strategy, and is 100% vibes. Ever since the 51st state rhetoric started, Australians online have been the loudest in their support for #Canada and distain for Trump. They co-exist with every dangerous animal on earth yet still seem chill AF. Plus, any society that collectively agree on a joke to troll the rest of the world with (#DropBears) is both hilarious and dangerous. Canadians and Aussies are like subliminal vs superliminal dangerous — think The Simpsons. Don’t fuck with Aussies, and don’t fuck with Canadians. I had a local acquaintance message me about the Carney speech today after I shared it and referred to the speech as amazing. Her response was that “her feed had a completely different response” and shared a post from a professional rage troll.
It was in this moment I remembered a personal rule I have: if someone’s critical thinking skills are actually just being critical about everything, I immediately lose ALL respect for that person’s opinions on the matter. I am all for healthy discussion and dissecting talking points, but when I notice that person never seems to respond to anything positively, I question where their opinions actually stand, or if they exist at all. #CNDPoli #WorldEconomicForum #Davos2016

Women are still underpaid, most of the time we don't have equal pay for the same work and we lose out on financial equality due to the responsibility of taking care of childrenWe still have a long way to go to achieve equality,
Carney needs to restore funding to the women's portfolio.edit: Senior women, widows, are left without adequate pensions are often facing homelessness.

Mr. Bernier seemed (to me at least) within acceptable Conservative parameters before he lost the leadership, but afterwards he demonstrated that he's not at all suited to leading a mainstream party.I suppose it was telling that he had roughly zero caucus support...

Mark Carney's signature policy initiative (pre-Liberal leadership) was the Net Zero Banking Alliance. Its purpose was to accelerate climate action among financial institutions. It would be great if he could be bothered to show an interest in this, now that he's PM.
