Und spätestens jetzt, im nach hinein, schaut mensch und sagt sich:

3rd batch of the diy #clubmate is a banger! Reduced sugar to 90g for 50g mate. And extra filtering and reduction to 65°C make a big difference - soo smooth! Maybe the next time I try brown sugar, could imagine that could round up the taste even more. And adding a pinch of salt. Still room for improvement, but these are really finishing touches.

Had a wonderful time at #MatrixConf2025. Nice people and interesting talks in a very beautiful city. Only the #ClubMate situation was a little problematic 😄 Thanks to all volunteers and the organizers.

2nd batch of my diy #clubmate journey. Several improvements so far! First of all I reduced the tea portion to 50g, so I can have more iterations with the supply I have left. Also reduced the temperature to 70°C, which made the result less bitter. 75°C was too hot. Thanks for the recommendation @FlockOfCats to make multiple brews with the same leafs to squeeze everything out. I was able to get 2,3l product out of 50g - thats insignifically less than on my first batch with 100g. #tea #yerbamate

Well actually it's not my first try making a club mate like beverage, but my first serious attempt. I ordered 1kg of yerba mate and will iterate in 100g batches to improve the taste. For the first one I gone with the measurements of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uBnJAEiDug

The taste is far away from smooth and a little bitter - but overall solid. Next time I go with less water temp and shorter but multiple brews. But for the first iteration quite refreshing
