  1. "It's not enough to hope the gap will close, governments must hold themselves to account for the commitments they've made under the National Agreement," Coalition of Peaks lead convener Pat Turner said.

"Without real power shift, we'll keep seeing the same patterns repeat, and our people will continue to pay the price."

The Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council chief executive, Paula Arnol, said the latest Closing the Gap report card was disappointing.

“It’s 2025 and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are still not experiencing the health outcomes that non-Indigenous Australians enjoy. This is unacceptable,” she said. #auspol #auslaw #closethegap #IndigenousIP #health

  2. With 86 seats (at least) in the Lower House, there’s no excuse for Albanese not to #RaiseTheRate, fix the #HousingCrisis, #CloseTheGap, enact a #MurdochRC and do all the other progressive policy initiatives for which Aussies have given him the mandate. #auspol #ausvotes2025

In Australia, we've unfortunately copied much of the American blueprint when it comes to education. Our private schools are now better funded by the federal government by a factor of three to one compared to public schools. This has created a widening gap in access to quality education, where private schools thrive while public schools struggle with underfunding. If all students, regardless of their background, attended the same schools, we'd see a fairer distribution of resources and opportunities, preventing the deepening divide that exists today.

  4. Closing the Gap will fail without ‘fundamental change’, the Productivity Commission finds theguardian.com/australia-news
In a scathing report, the Productivity Commission has called for urgent changes to rescue the landmark agreement, accusing the federal government of “weak” action on key areas, not fulfilling its promises and a “disregard” for the suggestions of Indigenous communities. It says efforts to eliminate institutional racism in areas such as justice and health have “received little effort”.

  6. I will vote YES for #thevoice because this land had laws, intuitions, and nations before the foundation of British colonies. That we do not recognise all of Australian history in our constitution and system of government is a wound in our polity.

I also support #thevoice because it is what emerged as consensus after a lengthy, considered process of debate among indigenous people, who expressed that this is what they want, and what will help them to #closethegap 235 years of us telling indigenous people what to do has entrenched disadvantage.

I reject arguments that the voice is a risk to Australian governance. Arguments against advancement of indigenous people always try to scare us with downsides. Those downsides never materialise.
