Food I'mood security through youth-led farming

In rural Uganda, our youth group is preparing communal land using simple, locally available hand hoes.

It’s low-cost, inclusive and sustainable and it builds practical farming skills that stay within the community.

This work will help 12 families grow staple foods like maize, beans and tomatoes, while training 15+ young people in climate-smart agriculture.

For us, a hoe is more than a tool it’s a step toward food independence.

We successfully completed mulching our banana plantation, and the plants are now well organized. This was not easy for us because it was challenging to find enough grass for mulching, but we are happy we managed to finish it.

Mulching helps in keeping moisture in the soil, improves soil fertility, reduces weed growth, and protects the plants from strong sun and heavy rain. This helps the bananas grow healthier and stronger.

Norway’s Desert Control has introduced a breakthrough that sounds almost impossible. A technology known as Liquid NanoClay can transform dry sand into fertile soil in just seven hours.

By blending clay, water, and local soil, the mixture coats sand grains, allowing them to hold moisture and nutrients just like farmland. What normally takes decades through natural processes can now happen in less than a day.

Trials in the UAE and the U.S. have already shown promising results, proving that even deserts can be turned into green landscapes. This could reshape farming, protect against desert expansion, and secure food supplies for the future.
