But instead of fixing it, these corporations have lied to the public, bribed politicians and sowed distrust in science. Meanwhile, governments are giving more money than ever to fossil fuel companies via subsidies, with a record $7 trillion cashed out to #BigOil in 2022.
"Some climate activist groups would like to bring your attention to this issue. But they are often arrested and get the book thrown at them when they demonstrate. Climate activist Roger Hallam knows this all too well, as he serves a five-year prison sentence for #BlockingTraffic — and, as he explained to Salon, his plight is a warning to Americans who vote for politicians that deny climate science.

One of those prosecuted is activist #JoannaSmith, who last year applied washable school finger paint on the exterior glass case enclosing Edgar Degas’s renowned wax sculpture, Little Dancer, at the National Gallery of Art to draw attention to the urgency of the climate crisis. She was charged and later sentenced to two months in federal prison for her #CivilDisobedience. We speak to Smith just a week after her release, and to #LindaLakhdir, the legal director of Climate Rights International. 'Countries who have held themselves up as beacons of rule of law are essentially repressing peaceful protest,' says Lakhdir. Smith says the nonviolent action she took was intended to highlight the disparity between a sculpture of a child protected from the elements with a strong plexiglass case and the billions of children around the world left unsafe and vulnerable by #ClimateChange's effects. 'We want to help': Why climate activists are trying something new

April 5, 2024"There's a scene in #HenrikIbsen's 1882 drama An Enemy of the People that takes place at a public meeting. The residents of a spa town are trying to prevent a local doctor, Dr. Stockmann, from telling the truth about a factory that's polluting the local water supply.
"That's the moment when, one recent evening, a #ClimateActivist stood up from his seat in the audience. It was during a press night for the current production running at Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway.
"'I object to the silencing of scientists!' said Nate Smith as he walked toward the stage wearing a T-shirt bearing the logo of #ExtinctionRebellionNYC. He was the first of three members of the #ClimateChange #activism group to disrupt the show that night."

#GretaThunberg cleared after unlawful protest arrest

"Greta Thunberg and four co-defendants have been found not guilty of breaking the law when they refused to follow police instructions to move on during a #ClimateProtest.
"District Judge John Law threw out a public order charge due to 'no evidence' of any offence being committed adding police attempted to impose 'unlawful' conditions.
"The 21-year-old was arrested at a #ClimateCrisis demonstration near the InterContinental Hotel in Mayfair on 17 October.
"The judge said that the conditions imposed on protesters were 'so unclear that it is unlawful'.
"He added that it meant that 'anyone failing to comply were actually committing no offence'."
