It has been a nightmarish year for the #ClimateMovement, but still, the momentum created by victories from the previous decades can be celebrated as we see it coming to fruition: on this New Year's Eve, I'll be cheering for the #CarbonBorderAdjustmentsMechanism starting to take effect 🥳
This will and already has effects worldwide. It's no anticapitalist solar punk utopia, but I'll take the win (and enjoy it before the carbofascists find some way to ruin it all)

Attorneys on our team monitored every minute of the proceedings and found multiple violations of #DueProcess that denied Greenpeace its right to a fair trial. The problems included a jury that was patently biased in favor of #EnergyTransfer, with many members working in the #FossilFuel industry; a judge who lacked the requisite experience and legal knowledge to rule properly on the complex #FirstAmendment and other evidentiary issues at the center of the case; and incendiary and prejudicial statements by lawyers for Energy Transfer that tried to criminalize Greenpeace and by extension the entire #ClimateMovement by attacking constitutionally-protected advocacy.

The fossil fuel industry is more vulnerable than its current profit margins would suggest. What are its vulnerabilities and how can the #ClimateMovement exploit them, including in countries where the dominant political parties are beholden to polluters? This presentation will review some of the movement’s strategic options, with a focus on nonelectoral strategies that do not require majority support.

Professor Dana R. Fisher answers this critical question in her new book, Saving Ourselves: Climate Shocks to Climate Action.
Building upon years of research on activism, democracy, and climate politics, Fisher explores the state of the climate movement today to understand how radical direct action is evolving as the climate crisis worsens.
In an interview with DeSmog’s Michaela Herrmann, Fisher outlines why she thinks “severe, durable climate shocks” will be required to shake the world out of the fossil fuel status quo once and for all. She draws upon years of data gathered from climate protests as early as COP6 in 2000 and lessons from the world’s response to COVID-19 to understand how civil society has responded to 30 years of ineffectual international climate negotiations."

"Should Extinction Rebellion not merely confront MacDonald’s over the issue of meat, methane emissions, and rain forest destruction, but also for unfair labor practices, excessively high prices, massive profits and the practice of inflicting addictive, ultra processed, carcinogenic, artery clogging poisons upon poor communities? Should housing, universal basic income and universal health care be essential components of the climate activist platform? Is climate change a class issue (with poor people hurt most by climate heating, and more privileged people comprising the base of the movement) and, if so, how can these class issues be addressed? Not that long ago the idea of working class solidarity drove leftist ideology."

This week I've read 'Pride and Protest,' which was incredibly fun followed by 'A Psalm for the Wild Built,' which was incredibly meaningful, and for different reasons they were perfect for the moment I'm in.
