New England moving toward legalizing plug-in/balcony solar
All 6 states- even New Hampshire- have legislation in process. Maine's could be signed into law next week.
Electricity is expensive in New England by US standards and prices are rising, like everywhere (thanks, 🍊)
Momentum is building on this!

Balcony solar bills being considered in 27 states and DC, too. Both red and blue states.
Virginia legislation has been passed and is expected to become law; UT already allows balcony solar.
Lots of people are using plug-in solar anyway, before their state officially permits it.
Cost of units expected to fall as more states allow them.

Hello fediverse solarpunks! We’re Solarpunk Presents Podcast, a podcast run on a shoestring budget by two lady solarpunks, one in Canada (@arielkroon) and one in Germany (@[email protected]). We’re not great with technology, but we happen to both be PhDs from the opposite sides of the spectrum between STEM and Humanities/the Arts, and we’re united in our working towards solarpunk futures.
Our podcast is an interview-style podcast where we talk to guests and each other about various aspects of solarpunk, renewable energies, political action, and more. Often, our guests are people who wouldn’t label themselves as solarpunks, but are (and have been, often for years) quietly involved in working towards making the world a better place to live in. We strongly believe that once you get past the aesthetic and hype about renewables, solarpunk at its core promotes compassion, kinship with non-humans and humans alike, and grace for our fellow human beings as we all work together to survive on our shared planet.
You can support the podcast on Patreon, with tiers starting at just $1 USD! We host a monthly solarpunk hangout that all of our patrons are invited to, and all Patrons at the $3 tier and up receive early access to our episodes. There are more tiers with more extras, so head to https://patreon.com/solarpunkpresents to see them all. We also take one-time or recurring donations over at our PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=4QYBB8LGBC6FS
Even if you’re not in the financial position to donate, we really value other forms of support, such as positive reviews on your podcatcher of choice (it helps us be more visible and reach more solarpunks!), or subscriptions to our YouTube channel and comments there. As writers, we thrive on feedback, and we are continually trying to make the podcast better and want to know what you think. As I’ve said before, it's rough out there for anyone valuing the environment, social justice, compassion, and more, and we want to keep doing our part to keep hope alive. We want to broaden the imagination of what it's possible to do to contribute to a better world, no matter who you are, where you live, or what life stage you're at.

First US onshore wave energy project! 🌊
Small Pilot project,
planned expansion along miles of breakwater at port. Will power 60k homes.
Fights dirty air at ports, #publichealth win
Similar project planned for NJ
Potential to generate 1/3 of US power with wave energy
So, can we do this on the Great Lakes?

I found a episode of the Win-Win Podcast where Isabelle Boemeke dives into some of her key theses! If you’re curious about her ideas on energy abundance, nuclear power, and sustainable growth, it’s definitely worth a listen. @collectifission @Ardubal @engravecavedave @Tallish_Tom
One of the things that stood out to me was how the conversation between @livboeree.bsky.social and Isabelle Boemeke tackles a fundamental question: Energy is the lifeblood of civilization, but how do we balance abundance with sustainability? Their discussion explores why nuclear power could be a game-changer—covering everything from safety and infrastructure to public perception—and breaks it down into some really thought-provoking angles:
- Why Pit Renewables Against Nuclear?
The episode makes a compelling case for why the ‘either/or’ mindset is holding us back. With innovations like decentralized grids and small modular reactors, the future of energy might be far more collaborative than we’ve imagined.- Nuclear Power and AI: Surprising Parallels
Did you know nuclear power and AI share striking similarities? Both are transformative technologies that face public skepticism and require responsible stewardship. Isabelle draws fascinating parallels between the two, asking: How can we learn from the past to build a better future?- Energy Abundance: Beyond Power
Energy abundance isn’t just about keeping the lights on—it’s about lifting people out of poverty, enabling innovation, and creating a sustainable future. Isabelle and Liv explore how we can turn this vision into reality. What’s your biggest hope for the future of energy?- The Role of Government: Incentives and Innovation
Government policies can make or break the energy transition. Isabelle discusses how smart incentives could fast-track nuclear innovation and asks: What changes would you like to see to make this happen? If you’re as intrigued as I am, you can watch the full discussion here: How To Unlock Energy Abundance | Isabelle Boemeke https://youtu.be/T_6-_U8yAn8

Heyo followers and friends and fediverse solarpunks, here’s your reminder for the day that we have a Patreon and we need support! This podcast is run by two people who are actively trying to figure out the very technology that we’re trying to use to broadcast solarpunk content out to the world, and that means we’re pretty busy and paying for this out of our own pockets. We are currently able to cover our hosting fee, but we aren’t able to like, actually properly compensate ourselves or pay for better equipment yet. It’s a goal we’re working on.
So if you like what we do, or you want some of that sweet sweet bonus content and early access to episodes, or just want to support solarpunk work in the present, please support us financially through Patreon (starting as low as $3 a month) or make a one-time donation through PayPal. If you’re hard up for cash, but still would like to support us and solarpunk in general but just can’t financially right now, it would still go a long way if you could take a moment to write us a review on your podcatcher of choice, or subscribe to our YouTube channel and leave us a comment on your favourite video. Sometimes we feel like we’re shouting into the void, and as writers we do thrive on feedback. If you really liked a certain episode, please share it with someone you know who you think would like it!

In today's blog post, @xtinadlr muses on solarpunk naivete and asks "dear solarpunks and everyone else who’d like to avoid a dystopian very near future, how do we neutralize the destructive effects of people like this? Especially when the “fight” is asymmetric, because we can’t resort to Machiavellianism, bullying, or steamrolling over norms in return?"

I'm delighted to discover this online interactive story that's partially inspired by the anthology I co-edited, MULTISPECIES CITIES!
"Pathways to Multispecies Cities: Backcasting from Solarpunk Stories" by Reetta Rossi

It's a little like a choose-you-own adventure story. Check it out and play through the options!
